Could anyone give me some advice on a company to get experience with? I plan on retiring and going back to driving over the road. I live in the mid Tennessee area and I don't want to be pressured into leasing a truck. I have looked at a few companies to start with and would like any suggestions anyone might have. I have a CDL but haven't drove since 1999 and lack the experience.
TMC
Crete Carrier
Maverick
Tyson Foods
Prime
Would like advice on beginner companies

Thanks Chinatown.
You have any opinions on the companies I listed? -
-
Here's some more ideas:
Jim Palmer Trucking
Wil-Trans
Melton Truck Lines
Schneider Bulk
Jim Palmer has good pay and starts you @ .40 cpm + .05 cpm fuel bonus. Nice trucks with APU.Last edited: Sep 14, 2016
Reason for edit: Will attend private cdl school. -
Thank you for all the information.
If you had to choose between all these companies as far as decent pay and not getting screwed too bad, which would you put as top 2 or 3 to try to start with?
Thx for all the advise. -
Top 4 in my opinion, in your situation.
Freymiller - if they'll take you with their "Restore Program"
Jim Palmer Trucking - reefer cdl school
Maverick Transportation - flatbed cdl school
Millis Transfer - dry van cdl schoolLast edited: Sep 14, 2016

You need a current DOT physical and it must be registered with the DMV. The DOT physical must be given by a doctor that's registered with the government and authorized to give DOT physicals. This must be done before you're allowed to use your cdl.
@dog can explain this better than I can. -
I'll get the physical done once I get back from Afghanistan.
I also plan on going to a CDL school as a refresher, not sure if that will open any other opportunities or not. I am currently emailing back and forth with Tyson, not sure how you would rate them for a starter company.
Also got a pre hire acceptance with TMC.
Just trying to keep my options open.
Thanks for all the advise. -
Oh, you're going to a cdl school. That means there's probably dozens of options. I didn't know all this before.
Are you a driver in the military?
Tyson Foods is ok to get started and maybe stick around a few years.
I'd go with Keim TS before TMC for flatbed.
