Thats true..I was always thinking my radio was 3-4 miles but i never included the distence that the guy goin the opposite way travelled..So my 3-4 was actually closer to 6-8 mi..
Even though it drives me batty,im determined to get more some how..

You are doing at least 6 to 8 + miles if I can transmit 8 to 10 with barefoot bearcat 980 and 5' fiberglass. Im sitting in Paw Paw Mi and just talked to another driver on MI 51 south of Decatur, going south, and thats at least 8 to 10 miles. He was running an amp and asked me what kind of amp I was running.

NAW..Based on my guess useing equal speed and distence while listening,6-8 is my absolure best..

You need to be stationary and make contact with another stationary CB operator at a known distance, rather it be another mobile or a base station, you may be surprised at the distance. I was at Sysco foods once in Palmetto FL ( I live in Bradenton in same county ) and was able to talk to a local in Bradenton 10 miles away, at his place of business, in his mobile and I was using my stock Cobra 29 LX, to say the least I, like you , thought my range was in the 4 to 5 mile zone.

I finally got my Stryker 955 to a shop that used an oscilloscope, signal generator, and spectrum analyzer last night. In Indiana on I-65, exit 240 in the Flying J shop. I know it's no where near what Mark could do, but at least I know it's on frequency and optimized for CB channels.

Thats one of the better CB shops that I have found over the last 20 years, is Howard still the owner? He always set my radios up good.
