I got pulled in for a level 1 today.
I asked one of our mechanics what the maximum allowed measurement for brake adjustment was, and was told 1"'for C-20 chambers and 2" for C-30.
Problem is, according to him I don't have C-20 chambers on my truck. I have C-24's. Those have a different spec.
Also, the picture below shows three axles. I had four.
Now here's my question for all you internet lawyers.
According to him if an inspection report shows typos of this nature amd any violations were found, they can be easily challenged in court and dismissed. How accurate is that?
I didn't buy it, because in my experience where trucks and truck drivers are concerned judges don't care in the least about technicalities. Their attitudes tend to be "since the LEO said you're guilty, I'm also going to say it and to Hell with any facts to the contrary, so pay your fine and get out of my face".
What say you all?

Did you get popped?

Axle 1 is your steer axle . They have c20 pots.
Axles 2-3 is your drives they have c30 pots.
Looks ok to me. As far as im aware both c20 and c30 are good up to 2" travel.
Unless you have long stroke chambers then your good to 2 and 1/2 " if im not mistaken.jammer910Z Thanks this. -
No sir, no violations.
In fact, that was the fastest level 1 I've ever seen in my life.
I think the only reason they pulled me in was my placards. I don't know about other parts of the world, but over in DelMarVa hazmat placards are police magnets. -
I get that much.
According to my mechanic though, I don't have C-20s on the steer. I have C-24s. Everything else is C-30.
The other thing is that I drive a single screw, and pull a tandem trailer. That's four axles, instead of the three show. -
They love to see thos trucks with placards esp in Arkansas and Louisiana. My only level 1 was in Virginia after my paper roll load shifted at 2 am. No problems except I was to short on time and pulled a safe haven move.
They knew it and had a huge parking area but sent me on. A chicken truck pulled in to get his weekly citation lol. -
DOTman only checked three

If the Inspector makes a meaningful mistake, and you can pass yourself off as an expert and bring documentation to back yourself up, you stand a chance at beating the ticket. Most times presenting the info to a lawyer and letting them argue it is a better choice.
In the 20 vs 24 chamber scenario, you would need to start with a measurement of the outside diameter of the chamber to prove it is in fact a 24. However... unless you have a lawyer baffle the judge with some made up ridiculous statements the judge is going to say "So, the cop said it is this chamber that has a limit of 1 3/4" and you say it is a different chamber with a limit of 1 3/4"? the measurement was over 1 3/4" Guilty." -
Makes note to self: know my brake chambers.
Mattflat362 and SidewaysBentHalo Thank this. -
More glaring than that I would say is the omission of an entire axle.
Like I said, I have a feeling the MSP had something else on their mind, but didn't find what they might've been expecting to.
