Ive had my cdl for about 6 months. I was in the Bakersfield, Ca area driving in my personal vehicle. Didn't notice my speed. Was pulled over and officer said he clocked me at 95 in a 65. Supposedly I was doing about 105 but he couldnt clock me at it because he couldnt catch up. First ticket. What would be the conviction? Pay? He advised to get a lawyer can this help and had anyone experienced doing 15mph over in California.

Loss of CDL. What were you thinking?
Drivingotr4life and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
You notice those seeds
-
I was distracted talking to my wife. First offense can they really take away my license?
-
I believe so, others may know for sure. In the trucking world over 15 is looked at like reckless.
MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
First off, how can you not help but notice you are at LEAST 15 mph over the speed limit? By definition that is considered reckless driving. If you pay it you have a reckless driving conviction on your record and your truck driving job is at risk.
First, take the LEO's advice and get a lawyer. If you can at least beat it down to less than reckless driving that's a win.
Second, start really concentrating on the FACT that your CDL is your most valuable possession. Protect it at all costs. What that ultimately means is you need to completely revise your old attitude behind the wheel. The fact that you were written up for a speeding ticket that far above the legal speed by definition means you haven't yet made the mental and spiritual adjustment to being a complete professional.
Recently my company had to fire a very well respected owner operator because he had three speeding tickets and a tailgating ticket. He has to wait a year for one of those tickets to drop off before he can get leased on again. It's a shame, because he was definitely a "go to" driver, well liked by our customers and the terminal manager. It's also a shame because he was making really good money here, now he is pulling for an outfit that dropped his gross revenue by HALF.
If you are a company driver, many companies will NOT hire you with even a SINGLE reckless driving incident on your record. Many will fire you.
Get a lawyer. Change your behavior and your attitude.25(2)+2, KMac, BUMBACLADWAR and 6 others Thank this. -
Ok... Let me get this right...
Clocked at 95 in a 65...
Could have been 105,
IF the LEO could "catch up to you"
And you say "didn't notice my speed"????
I call BS, grab a good, and expensive, lawyer and hope he or she can save your career as a Professional Driver.
Good Luck... you're going to need it.CrappieJunkie, Thull, magoo68 and 6 others Thank this. -
Sorry op but this is reckless driving and no excuse is acceptable.
You should lose not just your cdl but your license for it. -
I let my boss know hes well aware and luckily will keep my job. Just need to get it taken care of and hope it doesn't affect my license as bad. I know I messed up. I just need the best advice on how to reduce the conviction or what happens for the first offense
There's no way I was do g 105 my wife watches my speed. I was doing at least 80. Looked and speed limit is actually 70 in the area.
Not that it matters too much I was still speeding.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 18, 2016
