I disagree with you on this one i had skipshooters 7" and 5.5 francis and to me francis were better than my skipshooters.
Everyone had different experience but i did talk all over europe & north america with my francis 5.5 and a connex 4800 barefoot.

My wife got a bit testy seeing packages of various antenna components arrive by mail week after week while I experimented. She also didn't appreciate my hours spent putting together antennas mounting them then removing them when they didn' t work. She spotted the part of the antenna collection the other day, I felt it judicious not to mention they will be used in other experiments. There is no one solution to all Cascadia antenna issues.
bored silly, rabbiporkchop and wolverine11 Thank this. -
Look the problem is the muddled messages that are out there and how one or another seem to think they have a solution.
I understand the cascadia mess, maybe one of the few who sees the real problem but I can transmit that knowledge easily to others on a forum.
One thing that I stress and has worked is a tuned ground which is the counter poise element - which is part of the driving element of the antenna <<<<< I know I just added something else. People think that te antenna is only what sticks up on the truck.
However I have used the data from my testing to model different antennas on the truck and yesterday reading about the FEKO software for near field modeling, I am going to move to that do to pin this down. I mentioned that the one thing that is ignored is to capacitance of vehicle in relation to the ground and how this can effect your preformance.
By the way Craig, I've been at the hospital with my wife since last night, she fell and hit her head, then had a rough time most of the night while we were there so I sent your pm to a friend who I will talk to and see what he thinks, he's pretty good.25(2)+2 and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
Tks bud....Sorry bout the mrs...Hope she is back to full steam to rip you a new one when you get outta line..

Boyz and our toyz eh!!

That can be done with a home made ant tied up in place between 2 trees with rope...I get florida, carolinas,va all the time and i live in eastern canada but i cant hear a truck goin the other way much more than 5 or so miles..
I find the francis are flimsy and dont seem to hold upOugigoug Thanks this. -
With me im fustraited and dont know enough to know what to try next but to friggin stubborn to give up without a solution..
Ougigoug Thanks this. -
To each is own, i just related what i have accomplished with the thing but one thing that i haven't mention is the truck was a FLD 120 notorious to be a good truck for radio communication because of his design & materials.
I was getting easy 20KMS local communication with this ant/radio.
I wouldn't want to put up with the cascadia, i have read tons of post about and still can't figure it out what would be the SOLUTION for this truck without having to go through extensive/complicated mods....
Luckily for me my boss doesn't believe in freightliner.bored silly Thanks this. -
Can't blame you!!! -
I hear ya about the fld..had a binder yrs ago that i mounted 2 wilsons 2000 on the cab flairings untuned and i got 20 miles on a barefoot cobra..
Oh how times have changed..rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
