They say they don't take newbies but try JB Hunt anyhow, they have a big contract with C&S Wholesale Grocers in Newburgh and Chester, can't get enough drivers. Also, NFI has a terminal over on Orr Ave off of Route 300, stop in and say hi to the manager, they may have some new grad opportunities. There is a propane outfit in Chester, the name escapes me right now (dark green trucks, white trailers), but they run up to the Canadian border and back, always ramp up hiring just before winter, may be worth a visit to their terminal. Also try CBC in Newburgh, they are a bulk fuel outfit, not sure if they hire newbies but may be worth a shot. Lastly, if you want to give LTL a shot, YRC has a big terminal in Maybrook and are hiring drivers, desperately need them I have been told, and it is a union outfit. You will be on the extra board for a while, but it is a start to what could be a rewarding career in LTL. There are several other LTL carriers in Maybrook and Rock Tavern, you have about 7 or 8 to choose from, just ride down by the TA truckstop and down Stone Castle Road off 17K, you should find many places to put an application in at.
