Hey man your being nice, considering the truck was moving in the wrong direction 8 odd feet or so. Most people would report it.

thanks dusty. my only concern would be preventing that guy from doing worse in the future. it's doubtful my lil report would get him off the road, anyway, not that that would be my intention. wish there was a way to let him know what happened, without potentially hurting his livelihood, ya know? just as a "wake up" call.
eh, time to let it go. i'm ok, the car's ok......that's the important thing. wishing you all the best.
    Tom "the nontrucker", out.

If it had been me....yes I would have reported him. For next time he does something it could cost someone's life.
I learned long ago that everything we do or don't do has a ripple effect and when one crosses our path...this event you talked about...that was a chance to step in.... It was clear this guy made a bad mistake and what is worse...he was unaware. Swift is the worst lot of buggers on the US highways and one of the reasons that company will not be around in say another ten years. Until that time their drivers will cause many more accidents and take more lives. More than half their drivers should not be driving at all.

Rolling back 8 to 10 feet In a traffic jam is unacceptable
I'm glad there was no damage

Lesson learned, never sit behind, in front or along side of a swift truck

Someone with sympathy for a truck driver?
    Amazing.
Im rolling today into a traffic tie up,with flashers on,granny lane, hugging the rumble strips,to allow drivers, behind me to see whats going on ahead.
Leaving a correct following distance leaves a spot open, for every Dale Earnhart,to get 70 feet ahead.
I tell my family members, all the time...stay away from big trucks, they dont stop.
Merge, make your pass, and put distance between, you and the truck, dont hang around, for bad things to happen.
    Thanks for your post.

Four wheeler pulls too close to Swift, tanker makes left in front of swift so Swift backs up. Boom, leave space both at fault.

Swift honestly isn't as bad as many make it out to be. They have alot more drivers/trucks than most so yes there will be more things happen. Percentage wise it isn't that bad. I seen a driver do what the op posted about up in traffic on I-78 in PA once. #### happens, bone head move yes but like I said #### happens.

Umm no lol. Leaving 25-30 feet isn't enough? The 4 wheeler was like 50 feet back before he pulled up. Doesn't matter if he left 3 feet, backing up on a roadway is never the fault of a person sitting behind

I may be biased, but I 100% agree. it certainly is the obligation of a driver moving in reverse to ensure it is safe to do so. At least roll your window down and listen for a horn! (not that that is an acceptable option)

what the heck occurs in that cab to cause a truck to roll such a long ways back without any sense of it happening? there were no backup lights on when I was hit. just a slight slope in my direction. with traffic stopped and compressed bumper to bumper, what reason could he have to back up? no, I think he dozed off momentarily. accidents do happen.

perhaps I was premature placing partial blame on Swift, perhaps not. The majority of what I read revealed that Swift places a lot of stress on drivers and no matter who's fault that is, it can't be a good thing to bring to the road. The fact they are large doesn't help their case any, either. Can anyone name a large corporation that improved working conditions at the cost of profit? (chirping crickets here....lol!)

that said, when I become perfect.....all of you (and Swift) will have to be also.

until then.......thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments and insight. it's been enlightening reading the posts here and reassuring to see how much help and knowledge you freely share with one another. you've restored my faith that the American Spirit is still alive out there. That's quite an accomplishment these days!
