When I first started driving in 2011, I'd get some sort of sample or freebie at various shippers once every month or two. Things like a case of laundry soap from Arm & Hammer in Wyoming, or a package of snacks from McKee in Arizona (I think). But I haven't run across anything like that in the last few years -- do any shippers still do things like that?

When I ran a tanker, snacks and "thank you" gifts came about everyday. Back to dry van now, only freebies I get are broken/rejected cases of water/boxed goods and the like. But no one personally brings me gifts anymore.

Not that I expect it. Not at all, but hauling tankers you felt appreciated and the customer made sure of that.
Hauling a dry van.... back it in dock 6. Come in when the lights green.

I recieved one water bottle. Warm water bottle from qvc.
Two sodas from a little Iguana warehouse in Tomball.

    The list ends there.

I have intentionally damaged product while sealing it up. Grocery warehouses love rejecting torn plastic dented can cases. That only happened when I was getting screwed over by the company though.

Got a lot more free things from flying j cashiers.

Were offered free packages of cookies and small cakes at a place in Utah and chocolate morsels, chips, and flakes out of bulk containers at a place in Vermont.

Been to the place in Vermont they said take as much as you want. My son, being a wise ###, said "what of I take the whole pallet?" Without batting an eye they said. "we'll just bring out another one."

Not exactly a resume enhancement there.

I used to work LTL a few years back, occasionally I would get to a customer's dock on a day when they were having a customer appreciation BBQ (wholesale contractor supply warehouses were always good for that). I never turn down food.:D
On rare occasions, I would have an especially appreciative residential customer give me a cash tip. Once, I had one give me $50 cash. I always said "no, thank you", but the times I did accept were when the customer wouldn't take no for an answer.

Friend used to stop by with free stuff. Usually he couldn't hang onto it because of sealed loads and he was far from home. Cases of tomatoes, case 25# of fake crabmeat. Nephew used to get Lint chocolates when he was at their warehouse.
