UPS QUESTION??

Teams are much more common at Old Dominion and R&L. Many teams are very happy and very well paid at OD. I've also seen teams at UPS Freight, but not the parcel division. It may be different in other parts of the country, though.

Old Dominion pays around $.62/mi plus drops/hooks, and UPSF pays more (but they have a lot of linehaul drivers sitting at home while contractors pull their sets). UPS pay starts low yet tops out at over $36/hr, but like I said--I don't know if they run teams or not. I have a buddy who works for them I can ask. Or just check their website and apply. I do know they will be cranking things up and hiring seasonal help for the Amazon Christmas rush. Good luck.

 

Dunno bout the team linehaul pay. This is a good way to get a foot in the door for full time though. I applied after not driving all year and got hired during the peak season last year.

Louisville is the hub to go for ups hands down. Its where the money is and where the freight gets flown into.

Ups runs teams all over the country in white Penske rental tractors. They are taking more freight off the rail and putting it on the road via teams. Major hubs like Louisville, Chicago, Dallas and others have many teams. Louisville has nearly 100. Like others have said if you can get your foot in the door by working temp at Christmas, do a good job and then you may eventually get a full time job. Sometimes when they are rapidly growing the operation you can hire in full time off the street, but not usually. They hired many teams in Chicago a few years ago off the street. If you like running team and get lucky enough to get hired by UPS, you can and will make $150,000 a year per driver without any problem after you top out which now takes 3-5 years, depending on the contract you will be under. When I left UPS 5 years ago the team pay was roughly 80 cents a mile and $34 an hour for all clock time. Some team drivers have a 4 day schedule which allows you to pick up extra work on your days off. First extra day is time and a half. Second extra day is double. There are some UPS drivers who are very near $200,000 a year, but money certainly is not everything in my opinion. That said, UPS is a great company if you don't mind working nights and or weekends for many years to come. Good luck!

Christmas Amazon season is about to heat up. It's brutal, though. Sit by the phone and be prepared to run if you have hours, no matter what time your last shift ran. My buddy used to not know when to sleep. He'd finally get ready to crash and then they'd call. The upside is that if you prove yourself during the seasonal deal, you can get hired on permanently.

 

I worked for UPS as a driver when I first started. Got hired off the street as my first driving job in a non CDL truck. Did it for a couple of years then had to let it go... Too many layoffs
