So, today I got home from my 2nd trip both have been from CA to NC, First time we took a 10 speed freightliner which I did not know how to drive .. I actually did so good considering I had never driven a 10 speed.. Sure, I made mistakes ROOKIE mistakes but I drove most of the way with out waking up my co driver to ask for help ..through curves, uphills and downhills..pretty much got the downshifting down when going up hill and when they're needed , but still struggle when going down hill fast or if there's a stop light and it turns green n I'm going at a gear too high to turn and i panic ..BUT anyway I did so good for being my first time crossed states alone with out asking for help ..the bad thing is for my 2nd trip they gave as an auto because the owner is starting to get autos only to save on gas  SO now I'll only be driving an auto and I am scared I will be looked down on by companies later in the future for only driving auto, I told my "boss" I really wanted to keep practicing on the manual, but he said sorry all drivers will now be auto...so I am scared for the future..I actually like it alot here get paid well for being a newbie and the yard is literally 10 minutes away from my house so I want to stay here a little while to get tractor/trailer EXP but im worried about the auto only :(... Sorry for my english, not my first language.

I drove an automatic for my first 2 years and then switched companies and have been in a 10 speed manual since.
Before I started here I went back to my cdl school and drove around in a manual for a while to get the feel for it, it didn't cost much.
And another driver gave me the road test here and I easily passed.

Now that you're in an automatic, you can focus more on your turning and for hazards. And if you go down a hill in too high a gear with the auto you can slow down and let it downshift into a lower gear (without missing the gear )
Plus a LOT of long time drivers still grind , miss gears and lurch real bad.
    You'll be fine

Well, I have 660k on my truck and I'm on my 2nd clutch. They put it in at 380k.

Might be getting close, but I haven't had any trouble out of it...
