Do you have to have a good credit to lease with them?

Maybe you're dad should pursue another profession..I am doing the lease purchase, actually on my 2nd truck..I know how to manage my money and am meticulous on the maintenance on my trucks....I don't take advances nor do I do truckstops...very rarely do I sit waiting and I will admit last year 2016 I grossed $ 270 k and didn't run that hard with plenty of hometime...With 1 truck and me being a solo driver

Old thread but be wary of Gulick. We did great at first. But after a few months things declined. We heard rumors to do good you have to grease the palms of load planners. Didn't believe it until about 6 months in and our super solo runs started to get more and more time on them. We used to make $11k in revenue (before truck payment, fuel, etc was taken out) the last month we worked there, it was more like $6k. Which leaves nothing after that truck payment and fuel comes out for a two week pay period.

    Other reasons we left...

Your first load of the week is good, $6k range they run you out east coast from Oregon or Washington. Then take their time getting you back with little loads that second week. Then keep you around doing local runs so you feel busy, but those locals don't pay for nothing. So your whole second week is smaller pay like $800 range per run. Mind you, you get 80% of that. Then as time goes on, they give you so much time on loads, you're sitting a lot. You feel busy, but between smaller loads with a lot of time on them, your settlements become smaller and smaller.

At one point, we went a month without a dispatcher. Ours quit, so they gave us a new guy, he quit, then we got a new guy. During that time, we sat a lot. We were floating around between all the dispatchers so had to keep calling everyday to beg for loads. When we finally got a new guy, he was decent, but whenever we'd get a good load, we'd be taken off it after hearing whispers when he was on the phone with us. A lot of favorites being played there. We don't play those games, so after we ran negative for the last two week cycle first week in May, after they gave us 7 days to go 1600 miles and sat 8 out of 14 days, we had enough and left.

You won't get home time unless you're near by. We got through to our house once in 8 months. And they have freight through where we live.

When you leave, they hold your last settlement for 45 days or longer. Rumor has it, they won't pay it out. Even when you return the truck in good condition, and leave on good terms with everyone in the office saying goodbye. This includes the $2500 bond you paid into and $2500 insurance deductible you get back for not wrecking the truck, and your last paycheck. I understand waiting for insurance items, but 45 days to get a last check is ridiculous and illegal in the state of Washington.

We were a super solo truck and our last check in May that we got from Gulick was negative because they stopped running is when we gave them notice, they ran us enough the last cycle for what truck payment and fuel would be. Nothing more.

Our brand new Volvo was a lemon. Always in the shop. It threw ghost codes something to do with the def and Volvo knew about it. We burned up our whole maintainance account with it at Tec in Portland within a few months of being there fixing issues. We asked safety to order a new truck or use a former lease one, and they said no. If we wanted to work there, we had to drive that one.

The lease company is registered in the accountants name. They say they use external brokers, nope. They use Gulick logistics another side company to book freight and say it's an external company to skim drivers. You see the 80% of the load but not really.

There ISS score was in the 40s. It went up to 94 in a short amount of time, so we'd always get red boxed at scales. Several of the old school guys were on paper logs and got fined. Several on elogs would unplug and run. Got fined. It's like a turn style last few months with the amount of trucks leased and turned in. Bad news. It may have been a good place at one point, but talk to other drivers now, it's a joke.

They owe us $6k for our last settlement which includes one run that they gave us in two week period, minus a few days lease payments plus the bonds we paid into. We've been in contact with Washington state to get our money. Next, an attorney. Ridiculous you work hard and someone like this screws you in the end. I'd be super wary of them.

You'll do fine if you make nice and grease the planners and brokers, otherwise, find another place to be a pretend O/O with a lease truck.

I’ve been here almost 3 years. Gone through just about every situation you can think of. Wreck, broke down, etc., They’ve stuck by me through everything. Have brought over several friends. They’ve brought their friends. There’s 7 of us here now. No one complaining. Haven’t greased any pockets or kissed anyone’s ###. Communicate what you want to do and drive. If you can’t make the system work you probably don’t want to work.
