How to keep from over-steering:
Drive a Kenworth W900L.
Lol. I know, you work for Swift. Just saying, some trucks will get you in trouble with oversteering a lot faster than others. I spent a few years as a company driver in a short, midroof Volvo. I got real used to the way it would turn on a dime. Had to work to keep from oversteering it sometimes.
Then I went the owner/operator route and bought a W900L. Oversteering hasn't been a problem ever since....Lepton1 Thanks this. -
With oversteering, are you hitting and destroying everything insight?
If not then there is no problem.
I oversteer on purpose when backing, instead of looking at the mirror, I just turn my head and look at the space and its surroundings. -
...and if you do manage to oversteer with the big mamas, they let you know by getting in a real goofy position! Jackknife backing to force them into a spot just doesn't work.
-
Now you can't turn as good with steering wheel turned to the max.
-
Truth. Heaven help you if you ever get it in a 90-degree jacknife, because you can't turn sharp enough to chase the trailer.
You learn to DRIVE the trailer into the spot. Not spin it around on the tandems. -
Hope you drive daycab...some places I have been to only a shortbox should go.
-
No choice but spin on tandem, companies are too scared to say no.
-
Well..... We have a kraft dedicated run and I've been hearing rummors that there trying to round up a few guy with double triples endorsements to run the 28ft doubles for that run... Be afraid. Very afraid.
I tested to go solo and on the tightest no room back for the last part of the test, it finally clicked. Got it in there no problems. Got out like a hundred times but it finally felt like I had actual control of the rig. Didn't over steer. -
Admittedly though, there are times when that can't be helped.
