Do you enjoy your career??

Im an inventing kind of guy and was actually thinking about making some pre made meals in those lunch box cooker metal containers. They are aluminum (sp) anyways....figured one could make a big huge batch of something and pour it into those containers, freezem and sell em at the truckstops. Would save truckers time and possibly money...and gets them a good homecooked meal. Although Id like to be able to somehow cut down on the sodium as much as possible.

Me, too! I'd love to know how you manage, any good tips you have about where or what to eat (salad gets really boring after a while and you know the vegetable soup is not vegetarian... and if you eat grilled cheese all the time, you're going to have crazy cholesterol...)

There are good trainers as well as baaaddd!
There are good instructors as well as baaaddd!
Niether is "the all knowing" they think (?) they are.
They use intimidation vs teaching...it works...sometimes.

But some of the horror stories I've heard....I guarantee there would be some uncomfortable repercussions!

 

i have done alot of things and trucking is the best i would never change my career but i do miss my wife and kids alot

 

I have been driving truck for 10 years now and overall it isn't that bad, but there are times when I get tired of it; all the B.S. we as drivers have to put up with (low pay for what we do, long hours, and being away from my family, putting up with grouchy recievers and shippers who by the way most of the grocery warehouses treat drivers like dirt even though we are the one's who bring them THEIR product, dispatchers who are always nagging at us and wonder sometimes why on certain days runs take longer than normal, everyday traffic and some 4 wheelers who disrespect drivers and don't have any clue on how to drive around a semi truck) but there are also upsides (not having anyone looking over my shoulder all the time, not working in an office or warehouse all day long, seeing different parts of the country, seeing all the pretty women during the summer LOL, and getting to meet different people in all walks of life).

After 10 years I have now started driving for the Teamsters and I believe that is the way to go and will never leave the Teamsters since with them we get really good pay, awesome benefits where they pay ablout 80-90% of a doctors visit, and they put money into a retirement plan for me without the money coming out of my pocket and the Teamsters make sure you get your breaks and lunches and you don't go over on hours. I was driving a bellydump a few months ago on road construction and we got our 1/2 hour lunch and our 2 15 minute breaks everyday and we worked 8-10 hours a day and were home everyday also and I was bringing home $1200-$1600 a week!!

 

I have mixed feelings about it but here goes. When I started I was all gung ho and drive my butt off. I worked hard and ended up owning 5 trucks that I ended up leaseing to MONFORT of Colorado. Had a blast till about 1998. Then, I guess I got burnt out big time. I lost interest in being gone all the time, being trated like a second class citizen by shippers/ recievers, 4 wheelers and the law enforcement community.
What finally did it was the way fellow driver were treating each other. I sold my trucks, went into the Fire Service and drive part time hauling OD loads. I am happy now, have 7 Grandchildren and am at the place in my life I want to be.
