I was looking around for a 4-pack of all things, seems they're sold in 25 or 100 packs (or individually at truck stops for what would add up to ordering 25 or so)...
I like the idea of flip files, for the ultimate collection of four, except I don't know about attaching those to a trailer temporarily (they must be heavy). Are those the only ones that are reusable/weatherproof, or can the others be laminated?
Sometimes I don't get them when they're required (I didn't pick the load up, and they were put aside when transloaded), so I'd rather bring some along than have to track four or more down (takes too long).
Anyone buy placards?

When I pulled hazmat loads they were always supplied and a got a couple extra each tine. I built up a nice collection so if something happened to the ones on my trailer.
camionneur Thanks this. -
Go to eBay and look up a seller named "hammerdowntruck".
Retired trucker selling off his collection, from $1-$3 each, depending how you buy them. 100% positive feedback.camionneur Thanks this. -
The rule is this ... if the shipper doesn't have placards or in the case of a swap doesn't have them on the trailer, you don't take it.
Those who chase them are fools. It is not just common knowledge that the shipper has to provide them but it is a regulation. Make them do their job and protect your cdl. -
Wouldn't that be chasing them though? Like I said, I'm not there at the time, so then they're not at work when I am.

So, this is a pre-loaded trailer, with no placards on it?
-
Yeah, they're required for its transport, not for it sitting on private property, right? This is why I'm thinking of reusing them (being that where I drop it, the trailer will be unloaded, and at that point the placards can be removed). It would be simpler for me, just as I buy tape to put them on when there's no holder in place (instead of making calls for a sticker instead). No big deal, unless I have to buy them in mass quantities.

Wrong! Placards are required any time a trailer is loaded! What were to happen if a fire broke out at an unmanned facility, or a trailer is leaking something, and the fire department shows up? Those placards communicate the hazard immediately. That shipper is facing massive fines, at the very least.
Dye Guardian and Pedigreed Bulldog Thank this. -
Sorry but it doesn't move legally.

So do they have to placard the building too? Where does it say that... what I see is where placards are defined in the section on "hauling" hazardous materials. "As a rule, a driver may not move a vehicle that is not properly placarded". As far as loading goes, they're talking about proper labeling of freight inside the trailer (or that's to do with materials of trade, and compatibility/segregation based on its labeling), except cargo tanks have to be attended there.Last edited: Oct 5, 2016
