    If the hurricane hits as predicated expect FEMA to way over supply the hit areas do to the election. Obama is not going to get called out for not doing enough.

    Negotiate the best rate possible because the brokers will not be getting it cheap,don't get locked into a long term agreement unless you get the rate you want, and make sure you get a daily rate not point to point because you may sit with a load, and be prepared for total confusion. Go with full tanks and plenty of food, you may end up someplace with neither.

    Get full instruction before you load, cell phone may be out or overloaded in some areas.

    From experience, if you go to load NG or Army you may need to help them figure out what goes on what trailer, they usually assign people that don't have a clue.

    The good part, log book and weight rules don't exist.

    They are really vamping up the help. Also need to watch the roads to get into area. Contra flow is in effect on 26 going out of Charleston, SC, no eastbound traffic allowed on the highway. Fl also has outgoing contra, not sure what roads though.

    What type of trailers do they use for FEMA loads? I have a flatbed heading in that direction soon and the diver doesn't mind sticking around for a week or two if the money is good.

    All kinds of trailers. FEMA has van trailers that need power only, they also own flats and steps.
    Lots of van loads for water, tarps, MRE's. Flats and steps for military, generators, lots of power poles.
    I have a friend that pulled their trailer from CA to Florida years ago and it was full of body bags.
    Reefers haul ice.

    Yeah I haul a ton of military generators already, I'm sure they can use flats for lots of things.

    If you want to help others join the Red Cross, but don't haul for cheap and put a ton of money in the brokers pockets because they care even less about helping others.

    It's your money that they are paying you with. Get paid fair, remember they are asking you to let your regular customers wait so you can haul their stuff, you are helping others, but you are not a charity.

    Exactly. It's not like I'm asking the people to pay me out of pocket. If I have to drive to potentially dangerous areas with low fuel and no cell service, I'm gonna be paid well for it. Plus there's a pretty good chance I'll have to help out more than usually with the unloading.

    Like Terry said, it will just put more money in the broker's pocket. I guarantee that they're trying to squeeze every penny they can out of this so the government is spending a lot either way.
