I'm always amused by sanctimonious people trying to shame someone for making money off of a FEMA load. I'm doing a load of bottled water down to Florida right now. It's not a FEMA load. It's a regular load to an ordinary DC and it's the broker's usual lane for them.
The only difference is demand for the product is significantly higher. And so the broker, myself, and I'm sure the grocery chain as well - we're all getting paid well. The cool thing about that is it's a fine example of how the free market takes care of and fills a need.
Now FEMA will drop a thousand trailers with bottled water on them somewhere down here and no-one will know where they are. And they'll pay truckers a $1,000 a day to twiddle their thumbs. This water I'm hauling will get to people. The price may be a little higher but that ensures the supply is there. That's how it works.
And if I get stuck down here that's gonna suck. But that's the gamble I took. But I don't gamble like that on a normal rate. That would be stupid. Even the broker offered up a solid option from the get go.
