Let me put this another way. If I were back on the road and had my full 11, 14 and 70 hours. I could be in a rest area log my pretrip then go to line 3 and walk back out of my truck construct a hammock and take an 11 hour nap. Once finished if there was a MCSAP/CVSA/DOT cop there and they asked me for my log book would have to allow me to then make the correct lines on my logbook showing the return to off duty status.. There is at no time an actionable violation of the FMCSA HOS rules.

I'm on your side. I read some post about some cop writing a $1000 ticket because someone logged sleeper, but didn't change to off duty when he got out to use the restroom. Forgive me while I laugh.

Next thing you know, someone is going to tell a story about how taking a dump can be logged as OFF DUTY, but since some drivers really struggle to do a proper wipe, the wiping portion must be logged ON DUTY NOT DRIVING and counts against your 70.

I used to do that. Then I realized that this backfires on me via company not having a load on me when I get to delivery half the time. Granted, I usually do 400 mile runs, but sometimes I'll get something like 1200 and if I get there as early as possible, usually I'll sit and wonder why the hell did I even bother.

I go off duty for an hour, sleeper 8 or 8.5. Then back off duty. It does not start the clock so, that's how I have been going. I have 19 hours till a load so 1 off, 8.5 sb, so it will show the next 9.5 off. If something changes, I roll earlier.

    Second time this week....

There are not too many days that go by that I don't see someone post a trucker myth of some kind. Also several of the FMCSA rules can be optional with the authority holder. With my epilepsy sometimes I can be in the middle of a reply and totally lose my thought. However I keep trying to keep the things discussed in these forums grounded to reality. Many years ago I had a chance to keep a very green USA Truck driver from making a bad mistake because he got horrible information at the Petro Truckstop in Jackson Mississippi. I gave up almost 3 hours of my 14 that day. My heart is with these rookie drivers anyway. This is why I will engage bad advice anywhere. There are many people that post in these forums and offer bad advice.

And as many different interpretations there are among drivers the same thing is going on with the guy enforcing the law as he interprets it...I wonder how many times a driver will alter his behavior based on an interaction with a bear and then draw negative attention from another bear elsewhere in the country who doesn't see it the same way.

Want me break down how much money you'd make if it worked only 25% of the time? Thousands per year!

You're probably right. I do still tend to run my clock out every day. It just takes the whole 14 hours to do it.
