How frequently do these types of issues occur for folks running under their own authority? I know some load boards offer days to pay metrics and such for brokers, but is there any other way to protect yourself from these kind of issues before agreeing to a load?

You need to file against his bond. taking the 30 percent is just going to enable them to operate on the mentality that they gets the full cut and the suckers get 30%. You won't get much from the bond it will be a percentage and I doubt you are the only one to have a claim.

actually you wont totally be sol you will get money regardless of how many people file on his bond. what they do is split it between everyone that files. That happened to me i was owed 4400 I ended up with a check for 24 dollars and some change. If that happens throw the check away as I did. If you cash it you forfeit the right to going after them if they open under a new name which happens alot starting a new company doesn't get rid of the debt. Best way to get your full money is contact the shipper they are ultimately responsible for you being paid. They will threaten you that you are breaching the contract but they breached first by not paying you.snowman_w900 and 4mer trucker Thank this.
