Bell housing was cracked. Not sure about the flywheel housing and why they wanted to replace it, but they said it would be about $2,500 just for that part.

The bell housing was cracked when I looked under the truck. I have no idea why they're replacing the flywheel housing... can you think of any reason they would need to?? They stated the flywheel housing was around $2,500 by itself. Is this even correct? Ugh.

Do you think I'm getting screwed here? I definitely feel like I am. Any reason they would need to change any of these parts? The truck seemed pretty messed up when I got to it. It would get stuck in gears, and the clutch was pretty much non-existent. There was a crack as I said at the bell housing. Not sure about the flywheel housing though..

Start buying your own parts, when a shop tells you they have to replace a part verify the old part is actually damage by letting show you. Make sure you find out why they are replacing the flywheel housing. Find a small mechanic lots of them give you better service and better price than the big shops.

The only reason I would see it would need to be replaced is if bell housing was loose and screwed up the threads in flywheel housing

I think its taking too long also but sometimes bellhousings are crazy money. Maybe like pigeon said it wore on the flywheel housing and damaged it too. Sometimes simple jobs can turn into absolute nightmares. I'm around when my truck is in the shop. Sometimes I'm sure it gets on my mechanics nerves but he understands. When your not there some of these guys get a little crazy about ordering new parts willy nilly. Then you end up with a 6 grand clutch job. I had a rad put in my truck 2 months ago. Turned into a nightmare. 3/4 of the way through they discover the lower rad cradle/crossmember was rotted away. They were all set to order a new one from Pete. Only 1500 and it can be here tomorrow! I made same calls and got a used one for 150 and dropped it off at 10am to them. This is how these things can go.
