I'm surprised Reinhart only pays 50k or so, I thought they were compensated a little better to start. Tough decision.Mike2633 Thanks this.
-
Don't know how it is there, but we had some guys leave for Reinhart and it was pretty much a lateral move, money-wise. Their component pay is way less than McLane, but incentives and bonuses make up the difference.

That is basically the question all truckers have to answer. Not all, unicorn jobs exist but they are few and I personally don't believe everything I hear. I took the money though.

This is the saddest post in the history of TTR. Bless you, good sir.
*cue Harry Chapin*Bob Dobalina, speedyk and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Yeah that seems low food service should be 60K-80K 50 is to low.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

I was going to say 50K a year seems a little low heck back in the stone age (2006) you could have bought your self a nice used Ford Crown Victoria or 1996 Chevy Caprice and leased on to Diamond Cab in Washington, DC and if you really hustled could have made $50-60K+ a year working as a cab driver in Washington, DC. Just have to decided night shift or day shift.

It is a bit low yes but where I'm located rienhart is just starting out so they said they expect the pay to go up as they get more business. I would be one of only 3 drivers and one of those is a shuttle driver so only 2 delivery drivers. That's another part of the decision, do I hope they can compete with sysco and maine's and grow the territory or stick with a some what stable thing in mclane. Also my commute to mclane is 1.5 hours one way so that's another thing I would like to get rid of.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
I put in an app with McLane a week ago and got a preliminary call back from them. Still waiting for more word. The $80,000/year and being out a few nights out of the week doesn't sound as bad as the "weeks-to-months" out on the road the long-haulers are either forced, or choose to deal with.
A nice, long, somewhat predictable route with a few days/nights out of the week doing whatever seem quite alright to me. Yet at the same time, I'm still kind of debating whether it's wise to leave the dairy loading/delivering thing I'm doing right now. I mean two dairies to load a night at most and then deliver 4-5 loads dropped in the yard to the cheeseplant. Figure $300/night, plus the dispatch is kind of cool if I've got to come in later in the night for varied reasons.
Long hours are inevitable, but the biggest thing I'm looking for is a consistent start-time each night. -
I've never done otr that's just not for me but yes 3 trips a week does sound alot better than months on the road lol. Once you get off the extra board at mclanes you'll have a fairly consistent schedule with decent pay so good luck to you! I don't really have a bad thing to say about Mclane, they have done good by me and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. As long as you don't mind doing some physical labor and putting up with a week of driving throughout all the boroughs of the city. It's just the 3 hour round trip commute and young children at home that are making think of a changetruck_guy and bentstrider83 Thank this.
