It is a shame a bear family will do as he mother does. In one case, she led herself and two cubs to their deaths trying and failing to cross I-76.

What a sad sight. First, a large black bear carcass. Then two small dead black bears. Fairly fresh, too.

When I pulled vans, I would back into a door and either get something loaded or removed, then pull out, close the door, get paperwork, and be on my way. Usually, there was very little wasted time doing unpaid work. I realized this week that one of the reasons the mileage deck is stacked against me is all the after-pickup/delivery, unpaid work that takes place here.

Life is very different now. No more just closing a door, getting paperwork and being on my way. Doing all the flatbed-specific duties all take time - depending on the circumstances, it can be many hours - time that is totally unpaid and very effectively eats into my 14 each and every time. Thus, I have less time to drive.

im thinking about haggerty logistics because my present company switched from paying me by the day to pay by the mile. I talked to a haggerty trucker at their lot, he told me that they paid by the hour.. 18 $ a hour, all time paid ,even detention and breakdown. why are you talking about all the unpaid work. I don't think another driver would lie to me like that.. can you explain

It is probably a good thing to understand the breadth and variety of jobs in trucking before you accuse someone of lying.

I do not know the company you refer to so I cannot say anything about their pay scale. Comparing different jobs in trucking can be like comparing apples and apple crates. Maybe it is a local job running a daycab or box truck; perhaps it is even unionized. Or maybe they do pay their OTR drivers $18 an hour for every hour worked. Ask for details.

By the time most of you read this, I will be very close to my last-ever stop, home. I have delivered my last load driving a truck and turned the truck in. I have checked the box on my 'bucket list,' and I am once again entering the world of Retirement.

I have had quite the time these past almost-5 years, including one that I spent at home under CDL suspension for being stupid. I have done everything I wanted and some things I didn't want and now it is time to hang up the headset.

I got a good send-off from WEL yesterday and leave without regrets. It has been fun and it has been real.

I am on to grandchildren! Safe travels, drivers and visitors. And thank you for your companionship.

It is time to close this post one last time. Would @bullhaulerswife or one of the Admins please "retire" my account?

Hey just because you stopped driving doesn't mean you have to stop visiting here. Stop by offer your opinion suggestions etc. I think your perspective and comments would always be welcome.
