    We've got a 2007 Peterbilt 379 with a C15 ACERT.

On its last trip the EGTs were up near 1500 on the highway and the warning light was on. Around town it's still 800-1100. We have an identical truck to it and on the highway we never see over 1000 and around town is typically 600-700.

It's got new fuel filters and it's not indicating a fuel restriction. The air filters are clean and there's no air restriction. I can't hear any boost leaks. It still builds 40psi of boost. There's no excessive smoke.

Anyone have any thoughts for what's causing the high EGTs? I've read a bad turbo can cause high EGTs but it doesn't feel like it's down on power and it's still building plenty of boost.

Just a thought, have you double checked the gauge for accuracy? That 1500 seems really high, I haven't had a pyro gauge for years but that's almost catastrophic failure temps.

I swapped the gauge between the 2 trucks and no change. The driver using the truck said he saw the warning light and slowed way down and the temps dropped to 1100-1200. Luckily he was almost at the destination when the warning light came on. But he couldn't stay at highway speeds and keep the temp down

I haven't swapped EGT probes however because they are seized in the elbow after the turbo pretty well and I don't want to risk snapping the one on the good truck

How about swapping the whole elbow over? At 1500* you'd have some major failures going on.

Verifying the reading is the first order of business, nothing like throwing money at a non-existent problem. Severe exhaust restriction and remember Pete air filters get dirty on the inside and not the outside like most.

Edit to add - It's not uncommon for the exhaust sleeves to fail at the welded seam and the pieces to take out the high pressure turbo.

I would say if every thing on the air side checks out problem may be on the fuel side. Could just be dumping to much fuel to the cylinders. Good Luck

$75 inferred heat gun? Good for many other uses.

Hot cast usually puts off a little smell. I used to have a E we played with just above 1000 it would let me know. I would have to know no doubt. She won't live long with that heat. Since he referred to the elbow I can only assume the probe is post turbo
