Try disconnect coolant temperature sensor and start engine. On an instrument cluster you will see "Check Engine Light" ON and fan turn ON as well.
Your mechanic said wrong, for N14+ 206-208 degrees.
Check the radiator after 5 minutes of engine running, if radiator is warm - thermostats are not good.antguy04 Thanks this. -

I second the temperature reading 7th gave you. I own an N-14 and mine comes on just before 210. Try cycling your fan with the switch. If nothing comes on, take it in, it will be worth the cost to not burn yourself up.

I owned one for years, fan also came on around 210. The fan on mine didn't turn while idling either, maybe free wheeled just a little. In my opinion that is one of the best engines ever built. My old one has 2 million miles on it now on a single inframe. Runs like a charm everyday.

I know you managed to spell 'doesn't twice !!

in the Water rail along the RHS of the Heads will be 2 sensors.
One is for the Gauge/warning Light & the Other will be for the Horton fan clutch. one of the wires will go to the Horton Air regulator on the Firewall. Engraved on the Top of the Horton fan sensor will be the Temperature the sensor switches on the Horton Fan.
Hope this helps..
