Question, I heard that all FL state troopers were certified as DOT inspectors not long ago. Anyone know the validity of this?
I watched some poor sob question a FWC officer's authority once. It didn't work out well for him. State cop... State Authority!

I am not talking about you at all. I also try to be reasonable and easy to approach. I also let tons of stuff go because most of the time it is just silly crap. I do draw a line though when it comes to bad advice given to rookies. Its like that song Fighting side of me. Because I WILL come out swinging.

I do agree that the generations now seem way to entitled. Not all of them but more that ever before. It's tough raising my children the correct way when their friends and even family don't.

I don't know. See if the Florida Highway patrol has a website with a questions email. If not send them a letter. See I have not driven since Dec of 2012. I am losing touch with a lot of things.BIGZILLA Thanks this.

Heard the rumor and they seem to spend much more time pulling over commercial vehicles now. I will check.

The problem that causes a lot of confusion where DOT law is concerned is MCSAP FMCSA regulation 350. It is not published in the little JJKELLER books because it is the regulations that govern the inspection program and what states have to do to get paid. Because of this willful ignorance all kinds of stupid legal opinions are made by Truck Stop Attorneys. More then one mostly rookie trucker has got into trouble. This crap has got so bad that there are carrier safety people that spread this crap.91B20H8 Thanks this.

My last post is why sometimes I get stupid looks with open mouths when I say there is NO such thing as a FEDERAL DOT CERTIFICATION. CVSA is NOT a FEDERAL agency. The states handle the training of these Officers. In 99% of the cases I think CVSA does this for them. You can look till you are blue in the face and you will never see a Federal statue spelling out how the Feds Certify an enforcement officer. This is why when I post I use MCSAP/CVSA/DOT to describe these people. Edited to add: It is more proper to say State Certified to a Federal Standard. But over the years its been told and retold so much that it has become per se nota.

That's right. TOO many drivers trying to use the short-haul exemption for logbooks, sometimes called "the 100 air-mile rule" are certain that regardless of your radius from your work reporting location once you cross a state line you MUST log your trip. That's BS. It might have once been a requirement of the FMCSA. IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT NOW, or the last 10-15 years. And no matter how your first company taught you, what counts is the print in the FMCSA book. No state-line requirement in the short-haul/100 air-mile exemption for logbooks.

However you will still find drivers and even company safety people quoting that non existent rule.
