Another day and another broker trying to #### me over. I booked a load on 10/4/2016 and delivered it on 10/7/2016 in Laredo to a forwarding company, the trailer was going to Mexico. It was Friday and the was suppose to be brought back the same day, which did not happen. On Monday I emailed him saying its 500 dollars a day, which I did not get a reply to. Called him and his manager I was assured they will take care of it.Trailer sat at the forwarding untill Thursday. The driver received the trailer on 10/19/2016. So total of 12 days. Spoke with him today, They cant pay me the 6k. The driver is an O/O and he is pissed. This is what he emailed.
I spoke with my rep and she said that the $500/day is just way more than she normally pays for detention on trailers. She does loads into Mexico all the time and most carriers charge $50-75 per day for dry vans with typically 2-5 free days for the border crossing and delivery. We appreciate that you guys were patient and she is willing to work with you and get you something for waiting to get your trailer returned. She said the max she can pay is $100 per day for a total for $1100. I wish there was more I could do on my end but my hands are tied as it is her call.
!!!!!! Can anyone suggest what to do!!!!!

Take the 1100 bucks, and if there is no damage to trailer, move on.
rollin coal, Dave_in_AZ and thejackal Thank this. -
Ya, unless broker signed a contract stating the 500 a day, you don't have much recourse.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
This is not the first time. I did a load, couple months back for TQL PA-TX. I charged them same. Without any contracts after 3 weeks I got the full amount. Cant I open a claim on their bond.

Unless agreed upon prior with a contract good luck.
Sorry it happened -
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...whoopNride Thanks this.

No the first time , TQl paid the rate I told them, without any problem, even thought, they are what they are.

Yeah sure everyone normally gives a trailer away for free 2 to 5 days.... I can hear it now "uhhhh, uhhhh industry standard is uhhhhh, uhhhh 2 to 5 days". Hahahaha!!! Sure. I wonder if there are a lot of brokers in hell? Unfortunately you (your driver anyway) are pretty much screwed by not having it in the rate con beforehand. I would take the $1,100 offered and run

I would never let my trailer go over the border. There's plenty of places in Laredo to cross dock freight.
BoyWander and whoopNride Thank this. -
That's what I immediately had thought. I wouldn't let my trailer go across the border no matter what - I mean, what are the chances it might never come back? Or even undamaged?
PAM does this, or did when I drove for them. When drivers pick up a trailer from the yard there, they're supposed to take it right next door to Central to have it inspected before hitting the road. One trailer my co-driver and I picked up, the brakes on one axle locked up on the way to San Antonio and caught fire, tire exploded.
