Clutch out to go in 1st. Clutch in to stop in 1st.

Clutch brake only when fully stopped to grab 1st.

Odd time I have to clutch out on a downhill to upshift near the bottom, but full grades you should be picking a proper gear for the whole trip. Don't understand how people can shift with the clutch. It's just so much extra energy and effort.

I understand why some people do it, but I'm with you: if I don't need to, I don't waste the energy.

Unless you "have legs like a marathon runner ,most people float",some are guilty of double clutch to the floor. Recommend double clutch even with top of brake pedal,if youre taking a DOT test.If not ,are you ready for serious calf cramps?

In rhythm when you are listening to Hendrix.

    Air drumming.

    Naked.

    With the windows down.

    Waving at the lot lizards.

With tp tied around your head like a ninja turtle.

Then press it in and leave after you pay the lady.

I rode a 10 speed, a old 85 sears model 100 miles at night after dinner on a lark around country roads. That sturdy enough for you?

I did not start floating until about the 20th year of my driving. All of it till then was solid double clutching.

I have a hybrid approach I have used for over 30 years. I generally will float, but also double clutch depending on situation. Depends on load, terrain, and a host of other factors. Only lost one clutch in all that time, and it was shortly after buying a used fleet truck that had been abused. The idea that double clutching will take out a clutch sooner is rubbish. It all has to do with the quality of the driver. And the same thing applies to floating. A poor driver can really mess up a good transmission if they float terribly.

First day behind the wheel today. My apologies to the tranny and gears...lol. To all the experienced drivers, please have patience when you see a truck marked "Student Driver". Yes, we're a little slow on the throttle but remember you too had to learn how to drive a truck. I must say the majority of drivers are respectful to rookies but there are the exceptions. Keep on safely truckin'!
