I have two trucks and both have fleettax gps. I pay $70 per month for both. I get email updates about speed, braking, low voltage etc The best thing about fleetrax gps is that it can be installed behind the dash and no one will ever know. I had a driver work for me for 6 days and then sue me claiming that he fell off the trailer while unloading. After falling off the trailer he called an ambulance and was taken to the hospital. Once he was discharged he got back in the truck and drove for over 17 hrs(890 miles) despite the fact that he should not have operated any machinery for the next 12 hours because of medication. When my lawyer presented this in court the driver had no response. The judge ruled in our favor saving us thousands of $$. You can also add elogs. Fleetrax out of tx
Viceroy1, Terry270, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
I forgot. You pay for install or you can do it yourself. Then $35 per month/ unit. No upfront fees

We used something similar (North Star Fleet Solutions). We only used it for IFTA. It was $25 per month per truck and that included our IFTA filings. It was just a little box that you stuffed up under the dash and had a pass-through plug for the ECM port. Simple, quick and it worked very well. Obviously for the IFTA filings it had GPS.

Why do they charge you???

I use fleetmatics because of all that it offers. About $40 per month per truck.
https://www.budgetgps.com/ Is only $20 and is very dependable. -
Why should it be free? you want the service, buck up and pay for it. Or dont have the service. Simple to me. Pay up or shut up, nothings for free, and nothing should be.
-
I guess because they can. We pretty much pay for everything. And I think the fleetmatics is primarily used for IFTA. But they do also use it to see where everyone is at.

He's probably thinking about a GPS Logger. They are not real time. They need to be downloaded to a computer and are good for history. Any real time system will cost money as they work off of cell service and would require data to be use. Hence. The fees.

We have carmine. It works well. So well, we kinda hate all the email notifications but we see their value. Says their speed, where they are exactly, every stop, every idle, how long for each, any new maintenance alerts. I love it. $29.95 each/month. You can adjust the speed you want to be alerted at as speeding. Pretty cool.
We got a call from Keep Truckin recently. Their thing the ELD, fully compliant. Not all these things though for the lower price of $240/YEAR per device. If you want the other package I think it was 350 or 370 a year.
We will have to go with an ELD when the law goes into effect so I am keeping them in mind unless Carmine comes out with an ELD. I mean, why leave the thing you know is good and reliable?
They both go into the ECM port.
