I have a 93 pete with a N14 mechical engine that I just rebuilt 10k ago and it scored #6 cylinder agian. I bought the truck with the same issue (#6 scored cylinder). Water pump was replaced, piston jets replaced, oil pump replaced, injectors were rebuilt by a good diesel shop, plus the normal overhaul parts. I'm not the one always driving the truck so I cant tell you for sure if it ever overheated. Any suggestions on what to look for?

Oil passage blocked for the oil cooling jet.

I pulled the piston cooling nozzle and checked for blockage but it was OK

I heard of an ECM causing a problem like that. Saw a Massey Ferguson repeat that problem, bent rod, but your kit probably included rods. Was the new liner ID checked with a dial bore gauge?
-
No, I mean the actual passage in the block, make sure it is clear.BoxCarKidd Thanks this.

Maybe a bad connecting rod? Unless they're all new

Never touched an N14 but what about poor coolant flow at the back of the block?
-
Hey Rollin, if you have made certain the piston cooling nozzle and passage is flowing oil, and the cooling system is open and flowing correctly in the block and head, perhaps did a liner o-ring get rolled, been there done that. You stated it is a mechanical N14, That means it is a STC engine, that being stated, it could be an issue with the STC/HVT system. I have found shop rags, paper towel and so forth blocking cooling and oil passages. Perhaps, though, it is only #6, not #5 also, anyone check the cam follower timing? Just thinking out loud. Take care, good luck.
