    Thank you Texnmidwest! I knew I was making the right decision. Everything in my gut tells me Roehl is the company I need to be with. Thanks for your feedback!

    Are you still with Roehl? How long have you been with them, if you are still with them? Did anytning trip you up during training that you wish you would have known about before orientation?

    The main thing that I wish I had done differently during training was RELAX!!! I laugh now but I was convinced that if I didn't excel at every aspect I was going to be sent home at any moment. Plus, I thought the end of training test out was going to be much harder than the CDL license test. It wasn't. In other words, have fun.

    From what I have been told if you do not repay the fee with in a couple weeks they send you to collections. Payment plans should be able to be negotiated with the collection agents. JMHO YMMV.

    I have seen way too many people jump ship in a couple months and regretted it. What I advise anyone is to do your research, talk to drivers from as many companies as you can and if Roehl is your choice then make the commitment to stick it out at least 9 months to a year. There will be good weeks and really slow weeks at first. Hang in there and the rewards will come to you. When I came to Roehl I made the commitment (with myself) to stay at least a year. There were a few days in those first few months where all that was keeping me at this company was that contract! I am glad it did. They rewards came and I was very happy. Once again, YMMV

    Im currently getting out of the military and looking at going for my CDL, Roehl was one company I keep coming back to for starting out. Im just curious as to how your experience has been so far since you first posted this. Any advice, help, pointers, etc would be greatly appreciated.

    I would recommend Roehl to anyone. Great place to start and they will give you a very high quality foundation to build your career no matter where you are. Yes, you will have to work at it to learn. But the rewards are there. My advice to you is BE PATIENT!!! In the first 6 months you will want to quit 837 times. Don't do it. When trouble or frustrations hit, communicate, communicate, communicate! Nicely. Eagerly. Do what is asked and a little more. The rewards will be there. It is just the beginning adjustment period that will be tough. You being military will have an easier time because you are used to the structure. But still. Hang in there and communicate and demand the same from your fleet manager. Keep that can do, military attitude!

    I would also recommend if you are going dry van do not go regional. National or one of the dedicated fleets are better run. Don't know about reefer or flatbed.

    Good luck! And thank you for your service!

    Would Roehl be a good start for OTR? Regional would be nice but starting out I am not expecting to get it, plus it would appear (unless I am wrong) that OTR pays more. Which is fine with me.

    OTR=National fleet.

    Run very far away from the regional fleets! You will sit a lot...and be very frustrated. National gets miles and miles equals money. All assuming you are a nice to your FM and show respect to all other drivers. Be patient. There will be times of chaos. Communicate, communicate, communicate.....like a sane adult.
