Oh. Never mind. I reread your fist post. Yeah it is all controlled by the chassis comp through that one wire works all gauges. I really hate that system.BoxCarKidd and wore out Thank this.

Called multiplex. I hate it too. My pyro quit a couple years ago, so what I did was buy an aftermarket one, complete with sender all one unit. Nice blue digital readout. 2" gauge fits right in where the old one was. Needs 12 volts to supply it, but simple to install and independent of the computer controlled one. That's the route I'd go now that your know. Just a funny coincidence that it started right after the paint job, but that's how things go sometimes.

Pete was multiplexing gauges on a 359? I'm thinking you may be looking at power/ground for the gauge lights.
AModelCat Thanks this. -
Can I use my probe that's currently installed in the truck, extend the harness, buy a mechanical pyro gauge and hook it up and have it work correctly?
-
I don't think you can, because your harness feeds the computer. You have to totally bypass the computer multiplex system. The one I bought was all in one, no connection, direct from gauge to probe. Just had to feed it power in the dash. (And possibly ground too, can't just remember. )Instructions were easy to follow.
-
The probe has 2 wires coming off it. After about 2 feet there's a weather pack connector that goes to another harness. I was thinking about unplugging it there and extending the 2 wires that come off my probe and hooking that into an analog gauge
-
You can do that.
The prob is nothing out of the ordinary.
The new quage should come with new wiring to the probe.
I would just replace the whole works if it was me. A probe is what $25 . Then you know everything is top knotch.04 LowMax Thanks this. -
Anyone have a lead on an analog 2" pyro gauge that looks similar to these? -
Check with Peterbilt. I'm sure they still have OEM gauges from the pre-multiplex era.
