Without the use of some kind of a bulkhead to separate I could see how doing more then one store with that kind of load would become a nightmare for a driver.

 

They shrink-wrap the pallets...each pallet has a sticker on it with the store number. The store employees unload the trailer.

If the VA operation anything like the ones in Ohio, for dry loads you usually live unload the first half of the trailer, then drop and hook at the second store. I have no idea how the reefer loads work.

 

I have never done Class A DSD in my life. I had an chance to work for the Laurens DC many years ago but decided the commute from my home there was too much.

 

6. Different trailer every night then a restart. Maintenance wasn't bad for us. They had a shop on site.

 

Stops were anywhere from 2 to 4. The trailers have 3 temperature zones with bulkheads that fold up to the ceiling. Usually you'll have refrigerated items in the front and back then frozen in the middle. Every trailer is either frozen and refrigerated or meat and produce.

The backhauls really depended on where you are delivering. For me if I went into Missouri I might get a load of cheese or eggs. In central ok I might get milk. Backhauls weren't too frequent for us. Maybe once a week. Most of the time they were drop and hook. Sometimes live loads.

The name of the game is getting in good with dispatch. Be reliable and no complaints and they will put you on the good paying runs and backhauls. Prove yourself unreliable and you'll get all the short runs and starve.

 

@Schweiss I believe runs a Wal Mart dedicated for Schneider out of Wintersville, Oh. Perhaps he will come along and give some info.

 

No problem. It really was an easy job except from now till jan. They cram their back lots with conexes filled with Christmas stuff and it can present some backing challenges.

The best I ever made though was about $800 a week. That was mostly because we had a min $100 per day guarantee. So as long as we were available we got paid whether we got a run or not.
