Ok I'll go with that. *Grumbles lol.

See, I view appoiintment times for shipping or delivery as a total disruptor. In the day you were told to be there monday. Well, monday comes around, the truck gets there when it gets there. Not by appt. I get it when some say appts control the chaos. I suppose people have a hard time planning a appt 40 minutes down the road when we have to do it a week and 3000 miles away in all weather. It's a miracle. We should be sainted.

It's also a very valuable tool when you're held up by traffic, weather, customers, Godzilla, etc.
By taking a 2hr or 8hr break when you would normally take a 30, you aren't cutting into your 14 with it.

I didn't say anything about appointments. With the exception of crane loading and unloading i almost never have an appointment. That being said, i strive to be the first one at a reciever in order to get unloaded first thing. In the flat bed world most shippers stop accepting trucks for loading at about 2 pm. Any later than that and the crew is being held late, which means they start racking up over time. So in effect, getting unloaded early, gets me reloaded today vs tomorrow. This can be the difference in 3 to 5 loads a month. That can be a few thousand dollars net a month.

Some shippers allow the crew to work late. And the crew likes it. As they get to go home early on friday. Not the entire crew, of course. But 1 man is generally all that's needed. Generally. Depending on the load.

Your had a 2 hour break some time before you took the 8. Once you took the 8, your clocks reset to the end of your earlier break and the 8 is not counted against you.

Everybody makes the mistake of thinking the 8 has to come first.

The way I understood it was you can do the 8 and 2 in any order. But in order to stop the clock, the 8 has to be taken 1st. I could be wrong tho.

The 8 pauses the clock, but doesnt matter if you take it first or 2nd. I normally take it 2nd.

Example, i get unloaded run an hour for my reload. Get delayed at the reload so take a 2 (or more). Sometimes the delay is only 1.5 hours so i pull off to the side and wait another .5 so it hits 2 hours. Then run the 14 out, so for the night and take the 8. Get up early and repeat.
