it wasn't a trick question though. the question clearly stated " while transporting flammable gas, you cannot do the following. smoking in the cab is technically a right answer. cargo heaters is also right. why would one be any more right than the other. both are listed in the FMCSA regs.
maybe whoever made the test doesn't realize its a mistake. maybe he needs to report it. we all may have just found a glitch on his test he took and it needs changed.
now if the answer he choose did NOT mention being in the cab, then id have to agree with you and its a trick question. his answer didn't say anything about the 25' rule though.
as far as "we" goes...you do realize this is a public forum right?

Of course. Doesn't mean I have to join in the group discussion. I was replying directly to the op. Stating my opinion. Whatever you "cool kids" want to discuss at your table more power to ya. I'm more of a Lone Ranger. Be safe out there driver!snowman_w900 Thanks this.

Again, the DMV test is based entirely off the DMV handbook, so this question is checking to see if you actually read the handbook, or are guessing at the answer.
Yes, smoking in the cab is not allowed, but I will bet you that the Handbook never spells that out, so in order to answer smoking in the cab, you have to be interpreting the answers given, and that is not what they want you to do *for the test *.
So this is not a wrong question, it is specifically seeing if you will grab the easy answer, or pick the one the handbook tells you. -
I understand what your sayin. they want to test you on the knowledge you just read. I get that.
but wheres the handbook he was supposed to read to take the practice test on. what are they basing the practice questions on then? why would they want to deviate from the green book? why would they be asking questions on a HAZMAT test to certify him to safely haul HAZMAT, yet ask him questions NOT based on the laws and situations hes going to be confronted with in reality just to see if you read the book THEY gave you? -
Ahh...
What handbook should he read, that is a good question!
I haven't gone to the site, so I don't know if they have a general question pool, or a specific pool for each state.
In any case, the questions should be actual questions from actual state tests.
So let me rephrase this.
If you are going to take a test in a state, study Their handbook, and answer based on it!snowman_w900 Thanks this. -
hey wasn't trying to get competition with you. I totally agree with you on the subject of how tricky the wording can be on some of these stupid questions. your logic was actually right, but not to what the OP had brought up.you took it in a whole different direction in my opinion.
no one ever did answer my question about the oversize permit question. point is, if I used your logic to be whitty or smart, the dot might have be an prick if I took the approach of saying something like "oh, what time is sunset in ohio? hmmm well officer...what time of the year are we talkin?" he woulda thought I was being a smartarse and prolly found something to cause problems with me about. yet its a very legit question, did he specify what time of the year? no, I think we can read between the lines though and we knew what he was asking. so why twist it into a trick question or answer. that's all I was trying to say. -
Your correct , however the answer to the question said
"smoke in the cab of your truck"
The question is flawed.....

That answer may be right as far as we may know, but the answer they want is what's in the manual, regardless of whether or not it makes any sense.austinmike, Teddy_Salad and Cat sdp Thank this.

Which handbook i wonder are they basing their question on though. I think like @Cat sdp said....the question is flawed.
That ofcourse is until we see what manual it came from. -
