Question for you flatbed guys given the option, would you prefer to still tarp if you had the option of a conestoga instead?

Of course not, but a Conestoga has drawbacks. It adds weight to the trailer and it doesn't work with most over sized loads.

Btw, one of the nice things about flats is that with many loads you have a much smaller profile when it comes to cross winds. The Conestoga, and the curtain sides, both negate that advantage.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Appreciate the drawbacks but given the time and ease of handling advantages do they outweigh the restrictions. Perhaps I should have worded my question better..

That depends on the company, on the freight you haul. Where i work they would never work, too much over sized, too much heavy stuff.

    Lepton1 and Liquidforce Thank this.

I'd rather stand there with my hands in my pockets watching the guy on the forklift unload the truck. :D

No thank you. The only shingles I care to move are on the pallet to the back of the trailer. :p

My tarp rate is $250/tarp. I made $1600 tarping a load with 4 tarps. Tarping is like the rest of flatbedding...it's NOT difficult unless you have difficulty thinking. The guys who excel are the guys who think outside the Box. The box is 102 wide, 53 ft long and 13'6 high. I've run a conestoga (customer request), but it doesn't allow me to think outside the box.

I would prefer to tarp, it's just something I'd rather see in the mirror and the exercise helps. Unless it was a local job with multiple stops daily.
