Let's say you start your journey on Sunday at 11 A.M. You drive 'til 11P.M.
You go to sleeper from 11-7, so you get your 8 consicative hours. You work/drive from 7am (Monday) - 9pm, so that equals your full 14 hours, now you go to sleeper from 9pm - 5am (Tuesday), then you drive from 5am - 12 pm, you get to your home terminal and finish your journey by 1 pm.
Are you legal?
You still get your 10 hours O/D
and you get 8 hours in sleeper.
But is that legal?

No because you need 10 hours off in a 24 hour period, 8 of them being consecutive
AModelCat and Yves kanevil Thank this. -
referring to the monday anyway
-
You need 10 hours off-duty per day; eight hours consecutive off-duty, plus you need an additional two hours off-duty which can be consecutive with the eight, or can be in segments of at least 30 minutes each during your 16-hour work shift. Clear? Good!
The eight hours only, works if you are on Day 1 of the deferral (up to two hours can be deferred... a great way to finish your week early... but I digress).
Two sources for you to read from which will answer every question you'll ever have:
Federal HOS legislation (actually pretty readable): http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2005-313/
Standard 9 - HOS: Application Guide: http://ccmta.ca/en/reports-publicat...f-service-regulations-ccmta-application-guidejeeper01ca Thanks this. -
But Monday I did 14, not 16. So my 2 jours could count from 9-11pm. But those 2 hours are being added to my 8 hours of Tuesdays in sleeper
-
You don't have 16 hours to work. The 16 hours is a workshift within which you can work a maximum of 14 hours, of which you can drive a maximum of 13 hours. You must have 10 hours off per day, with a minimum of eight hours between workshifts.
If you started your Sunday at 9 AM, deferred two hours from Monday to Tuesday... golden!Last edited: Oct 31, 2016

You're getting into split-sleeper territory... a whole different animal. It would look like this:
Sunday 11 AM -11 PM: driving (assuming all driving and 10 hours off-duty prior, etc.)
Sunday 11 PM - 7 AM: Monday sleeper
Monday 7 AM - 9 AM: on-duty / driving
Monday 9 AM - 5 PM: sleeper
Monday 5 PM - Tuesday 5 AM: on-duty / driving (driving cannot exceed 13 hours in a day*, on-duty cannot exceed 14 hours)
Tuesday 5 AM - 7 AM: sleeper
Tuesday 7 AM - 9 AM: on-duty / driving
Tuesday 9 AM - 3 PM: on-duty / driving
(disclaimer: I think I got the math right
)
* "day" means the 24 hour period covered by your logs, set by the carrier; typically midnight - midnightPullin2, jeeper01ca and nate980 Thank this. -
If you're going to drive 12 hours straight then shut it down you need to take 10 hours off, if you want to only take 8 off you need to mark down 2 hours off duty somewhere throughout the day during those 12 hours, half hour here half hour there, hour for lunch, then you can take 8.
If you're not breaking at all in your 14 hour shift you need to take 10 hours off consecutive -
This part covers that scenario:
- (3) The total amount of off-duty time taken by a driver in a day shall include at least 2 hours of off-duty time that does not form part of a period of 8 consecutive hours of off-duty time required by section 13.
