My RM720 won't work when plugged into a freightliner. And the freightliner doesn't charge it enough to work more than 5 minutes unplugged.
Got home today after a nerve wracking trip through Chicago and it works in a car!
Never had trouble in my Volvo truck.
WTF?
Rand McNally GPS crap out while in Chicago

When you say "a freightliner" do you just mean "your freightliner" ??
Or have you tested it in several freightliners?
It's possible that the voltage in your cigarette lighters may be low or something like that.
Also are you using the original adapter that came with the GPS?texasbbqbest Thanks this. -
U should have several 12v outlets try different ones in the truck. If that doesn't work then probably the trucks outlets arent wired right. U could try one of those portable phone charger batteries they sell at the truck stops. They will charge a smart phone up. If not get you a good atlas and do it old school!

Get a trucking Atlas and use the Chicago routing number.
TROOPER to TRUCKER, HalpinUout and passingthru69 Thank this. -
The contacts could be dirty or corroded, for either the 12V plug or your RM plug.
Or is it only while near Chicago?
If so, perhaps a tin foil hat might be in order.25(2)+2, MidWest_MacDaddy and ExOTR Thank this. -

That's nice. Lot nicer than mine and probably works better, too. Who sells those or did you have that custom made?Lepton1 Thanks this.

It was handcrafted on the mother ship with a special foil that is produced only in one plant on the southern hemisphere of the Homeworld of Cygnus Prime

WTF is right.
Chicago isn't that bad and depending on a nav unit seems to tell us you need to learn not to use it and relax.
