Western Express pretty much does the same thing-"asset recovery". There have been a few times I've assisted drivers in recovering trucks (mostly fleece purchases)that have been abandoned or otherwise.

A recovery fleet...well, maybe not a fleet but a few people who are on that particular duty...makes sense.
It's amazing how many trucks get abandoned. Before DAC a driver could just drop a truck anywhere and, other than getting fired and a lousy reference, get away with it.
A friend of mine set up a truck recovery business when he retired from driving. He sent letters to several of the majors advertising his business and spent the next five years just absolutley running his butt off picking up stray trucks. He worked independently and refused offers of full time employment. He made more money that way.
He charged mileage on his personal vehicle from his house to the truck or nearest airport, charged hourly for travel time, got mileage for the actual movement of the truck, was paid the hour for anything mechanical that had to be done to get it moving, and return airfare to Sacramento from wherever he took the truck.
He spent five years doing that. He made money hand over fist. He used to laugh about it and said that the megas had some of the dumbest people in the world running things. He also said that one day they'd figure out that they could do the same thing with some of their wage slaves and do it a heck of a lot cheaper.
The megas finally wised up but he still gets calls now and then.

Now that's an interesting anecdote and just verifies what many of us have come to know and expect from these megas that hire anything that can fog a mirror

There was an old post from a few years ago about Cr England telling new drivers that if they quit out before they paid their fees off that the company would report them to homeland security and that their CSA would be confiscated
