My first underground depot was a hole in the ground. A big ramp. Gaurd points and says get going.
Who Me? Ya you. Beat it let's go.
What? This is a field that hole not big enough for me.
*&^% stupid kid, get ### in truck and get down there.. you learn something today.
He's right I learned things that day. Just a field. humpth. America forever.KillingTime and texasbbqbest Thank this. -
I'm surprised they put switchbacks in on that road. Musta been a major disappointment for the planners.
We don't need any stinking switchbacks.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
When I saw that 70 km run at 20% and switchbacks, I knew I want it. Bad.
Maybe I am the one who is crazy. It's a drug, mountain work. -
When I got into town I noticed a lot of mobile homes, I asked a waiter how the heck they got them in there. There was no way they came in on that road. He said they came up the river by barge, then they used a helicopter to put them in place. Not sure if they really did use a helicopter or if he was pulling my leg, but the barge made sense.x1Heavy Thanks this.

Highway 63 out of McMurray (before they twinned it). Shift change day was always horrible to travel on that highway. You could drive 20 over and still be passed like you're standing still. At one point it seemed like there was a fatality every couple weeks. The road itself is fine, just too many stupid kids that make too much money and think they're invincible. Even now its not uncommon to hear of someone getting pulled over for excessive speed. Just last summer they clocked a guy in a new Corvette travelling in excess of 200!

Mobile homes are roughly 14,000 to 20,000 pounds as built give or take a little bit.
That's hefty for a helicopter at sea level. Call it a Chinook or sky hook. There are Russian or ex soviet helicopers that do work of that sort lifting logs out of woods. They can lift a mobile home too. It will cost you.
What really gets me is I bet the land is cheap enough to be a flood plain and they stacked the mobile homes all over it. Eh?
Finally understanding how mobile homes are built and seeing how they sag when transported on it's own three sets of wheels, there is no way a helicopter to lift them without them tearing apart.uncleal13 Thanks this. -

For you imperial folk, that's 109 miles from Sioux Lookout. Once you leave the pavement of the ON-513 behind, it's a long, hilly gravel/sand road all the way up. With no where safe to stop until you get where you are going.
It took me 4 hours to get up there grossing 60,000 lbs. I lost my tractor air suspension twice (I figured out how to fix it, no cell or satellite reception) and had to do the "back down and run up" on a hill that was very sandy near the top because I lost traction.
It was the most exhilarating and rewarding trucking experience I've ever had and would do it again in a heart beat. Unfortunately, the company won't ever send a truck up there again, lol.
