I own a four inch barrel .357 Magnum. It's been locked in my storage unit for several years. Occasionally I think about taking it on the road. All the grief if John Law catches me with it discourages those thoughts so far.
I do have a compact telescoping baton. Another item that could get me in the soup. When I have to park on the back row at 3 AM or use the rest stop wash room in bum**** Egypt I tuck it in the back of my belt.
Bring a gun while being over the road?

I was specifically speaking about those who are paranoid, or are scared of the danger, not saying that everyone who carries is paranoid or scared.
I personally am a Sheepdog, and if it was advisable for me to do so, I would ccw all the time, because it does give me better teeth against the wolves.
(I also would still use what ever other means I had available before I even touched it, it is *a * tool not *the* tool, and not a way of life)
I have lived in the Bay Area most of my life, and it is very hard to get a ccw down there, but now I am up in Yreka, and I am pretty sure I could get one now.
But I am not, because I don't yet know more than a couple Leo up here, and I haven't been able to become part of the FD or anything to become known as part of the community, so I put myself at risk by carrying one.
And otr with one doesn't work well.
So, if I ever settle down here and become part of the community, I probably will get a ccw and start carrying.
Oh, and here is a big difference.
I don't want to carry for my protection, I would be carrying to use to protect others.
Oh, and I am not anti gun, I have a small arsenal, and would have a big one if not for money and laws lol
But I am pro common sense, and a lot of the "pro-2A" propaganda is lacking in common sense. Doesn't mean I am not pro 2nd, just because I don't agree with the propaganda -
You can open carry a handgun in Texas, just has to be a shoulder or waist holster(no leg drops allowed). To all the people talking about "working out" and "training for self defense", it's only a minor part of the threat equation. If someone attempts to assault me or harm my family I will kill them, because I don't know what their final intentions are. If a criminal breaks into my home or truck they willingly accept that they may die as a result of their actions, I'm not going to wait and/or attempt to ask them to leave.
Action is always faster than reaction...
I hope I never have to discharge a weapon in self defense, but being sued seems minor compared to me bleeding out from a stab wound in a parking lot.BUMBACLADWAR, brysol01 and Claysapparel Thank this. -
I never understood why California residents are allowing their government to regulate their rights and means for protection. It goes back to my points in the post above. It's insanity. There are countless civilizations throughout history who would kill (literally) to be able to cast a vote for the right to bear arms. California people have taken political affiliation to an absolute insane level.
I salute you for not buying in. It's tough to do in places like that.
My personal opinion? I will not protect anyone minus myself and my family. I will walk past a shooter, with his back turned, and leave the property while he kills everyone else in his path. Why?
Because it would send a message that could save thousands one day. I could have killed him, and saved that woman and child. I didn't, because of the fear of government retaliation. You want me to protect those people, protect me, and my rights. -
I remember groups on Texas forcing change. I didn't recall if they were successful. Thanks for the information.

We've had open carry for a year, currently have concealed campus carry at 4yr universities, community colleges I believe have until August 2017 to setup requirements for concealed carry. We are still fairly restricted but for good reasons, such as we can't carry at bars or while drinking. Still can't carry in public schools either, but many districts allow teachers with high marksmanship to become unidentified "school marshals" to confront active shooters.Claysapparel Thanks this.

I am sorry that you would allow innocent people to die to make a political point.
You realize that is as bad as the government?
I will hope that someday when it is your family on the loud end of the gun, that the guy walking past chooses to risk his life to save the strangers.
Your point will not go anywhere anyway, and you as a private gun owner stopping a mass shooting, that WILL make a loud statement for the positive. And the news will talk about it.
And the laws are such in California because enough people there are in favor of limiting guns, and enough of the pro gun people give a bad image to guns that it is easy to restrict them... -
Great info. Thanks.
I was Vice President of the Conservative party at my college in Tennessee. We made an agreement (pre-lawsuit) stance with the school who was putting up (7 year inprisonment for gun) signs on campus. This same school had an active shooter just 8 years prior.
We basically told our college they would be sued and held responsible for any active shootings and casualties in the future because of a no guns (no protection) policy. After consulting with several attorneys who we paid to contact the president of the college, we were successful in the signs being removed, and actually helped the state legislature enact a bill that states students are allowed to carry guns in their cars on any campus.
It's not the max of what we wanted, but we were successful. Constitutional citizens must stand up. It does make a difference.tscottme Thanks this. -
I meant no disrespect to you specifically. It was more or less just an observation.
Google these three words... paranoid scared carry.
Interesting, the topic of all the links on the first page. -
I don't agree at all. If I kill the gunman, who's going to report it?
CNN? MSNBC? The countless anti-gun newspapers?
The mass media in America would bury that story in two seconds.
I have every right to not get involved. And I think ahead.
The bigger story would be the concealed carry holder leaving the scene, and allowing the carnage. Why? Because of fear of retaliation of the government. It midst help save countless people in the future.
As far as the California comment, pro gun law abiding citizens aren't doing anything to give a bad name. Criminals, who are rampant in California, are giving firearms a bad name. Have California enforce the laws on the books, not allow criminals our of jail every other second. That's how you stop it. 1st gun crime,
10 years.
The rest of the lemmings in that state are going with whatever their party of choice wants. It's about winning for politics, nothing more, nothing less.Last edited: Nov 5, 2016
