Blown turbo

Any major dealer will "rebuild" the cooler. Clean it out, pressurize and fix leaks, and normally repainted black(at least what our shop used to get back from freightliner). Much cheaper than buying new as long as you pull it off yourself and take it to them. In all truth, a radiator shop would likely be able to perform the same service if no dealers are nearby.

 

Be sure to clean the fresh air side too. I have seen them blow debris back to the air filters then when they are started it goes right thru a brand new turbo. Sure makes a guys lip pooch out when it happens.

 

Remove it and flush it out real good with soapy water or degreaser. Took a bottle of dawn and a half bottle of degreaser before I was satisfied with mine...of course the wife wasn't thrilled the next time she went to wash the dishes and her dish soap was gone...but I got my truck back together and that's all I was concerned about at the time.

 

Pffft, just run it through the dishwasher next time....

 

Clean out your air breather tube and buy new air filter also

 

Yup. I pulled everything from the air cleaner through to the intake manifold off the truck to clean thoroughly. New air filter. Change the oil. New turbo. Good to go.

 

Yep had my charge cooler sent to a radiator shop in Boise Idaho they cleaned , tested and repaired it ...was cheap too.

 

I have done a few of those. Some were mine but most were not. The worst was a Mack that was towed in to a
satellite terminal.
Asked if you want me to take the CAC to a radiator shop and have it flushed out. Take it off and back flush it out with a pressure washer as best I can or replace it.
No don't worry about it. Just put the turbo we are sending you on it and it will be fine.
Started it up and it ran away. Pulled the engine stop cable out of the dash and my hand slammed window on back of the cab. Could not get it in gear or break the gear shift lever off. The only one I ever left. It rolled smoke like the best tractor puller. The valves would float and slow it down and go again for a few cycles, maybe three minutes and it shut off. Checked fluid levels, moved stop lever on pump, put it in high gear and started it up. Ran perfect but could here the rods knocking when the throttle was let off.
In hind sight I probably could have saved it by dumping the fire extinguisher in the air filter.
