Not all FedEx is expedited freight, Custom Critical is their division for expedited freight and is different then FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, or FedEx Express. They are all different divisions and run differently. Last I knew Custom Critical had no company drivers, they are all leased on carriers and drivers work for one of those carriers so they are not FedEx employee's. That may have changed in the last couple of years.

Expedited freight is pretty well known for longer wait times, even for teams. That’s why a lot of the straight trucks you see hauling it have such large sleepers. Being a sole driver pulling expedited freight eliminates you from a large percentage of the loads as they ether need to run 24 hours a day until delivery or they are high value loads that require someone watching them 24/7.

They used to make up for the longer wait times on the rates paid but it seems to be a shrinking segment of the industry.

It's likely he's telling the truth. FedEx doesn't give their ground freight to their FXCC trucks. It's different freight. Their priority is to keep the teams moving. Going solo with FXCC has been a running joke in the expedite world, for a good long while. But the nature of expedite itself has been that there could be a good amount of sitting involved.

I do believe the OP. I've sat wor near a week before, several times. Expedite is like truckload on steroids When it's good, it's great. When it's slow, it's dead. But the money is definitely there to be made. Just not as a solo with FXCC, apparently.

You will sit if you're a solo driver. Teams get priority over solo drivers. Drivers who sit are on what's know as "dwell time" the ones who've been sitting the longest get dispatched in descending chronological order. Ideally you would want to run team at Custom Critical. Solos don't do very well there.

I know a solo custom critical driver and has done well enough to buy a new Pete straight truck with big sleeper. I have also seen the load lists on his phone and there is no shortage of loads, many for team but he doesn't sit long if he doesn't want to. Maybe your in a crappy area.

I live in Memphis. FedEx & UPS run the city here. The world hub is here so everything runs through here at some point if it's FedEx. I even worked there in 2k14.

If they have you sitting, are you compensated for it? Why not just find a dependable person to team with?

FXCC is specialty freight. They do not haul ground, freight or express loads. They are a special service that customers must order and ask for. Its usually specialty freight -temp control, high security with chase cars, airport unld and delivery, art, pharma, zoo animals, etc. Different trucks are eligible for different loads and can bounce between types as long as they have the eqquipment and are vetted and cleared thru CC.

There is a large pool of FXCC shippers in Memphis. Pharma, HP, etc.

If you want to stay you could look into getting vetted for more fleets like white glove and TVAL. Teams do get more freight, then again I knew a guy with a 10' box truck that cross docked 53' and delivered in NYC. He made 10 grand gross fro breaking down our 53' load and delivering it in Manhattan.

Sitting is a big part of the game with them.

There is ONE Pharma Im familiar with and that one is McKesson. Now I don't know where THEY get or make the drugs the way they do, but a truckload of demerol or similar controlled substances are valued north of a million routinely in unmarked rigs. We used to haul out of them. They are not that hard to find in Memphis.
