The businesses cited, fast food, home improvement stores etc are all highly competive businesses. They are looking for a cheap way to make the customer feel " welcomed". It doesn't occur to any of them( or maybe it has) that if you paid your staff a living wage they would be happy to serve the customer properly, which is all I am asking for. Don't give me this false warm fuzzy feeling that the employee " cares" about me. He doesn't.

I just give them my handle. I guess it's from being left over from a time that most knew me more by that than by name.

I once worked with a guy whose name was Sven ... so I sometimes use that name it is pronounced Seven. Once I went into a place and told my kids to use Ate, and Nyne as their names. I thought it would be funny, but apparently nobody even notice when they called out seven, eight, nine. I live in my own fantasy world, no one gets the jokes, but yea I don't like the name thing..

Crew at quarry called me blockhead when I was crawling over the CAT dozer and not staying off the tracks. That was a powerful spark to get into trucking and heavy equiptment where I will do well. I managed with a little luck gain a season's worth of experience with a front end loader CAT 936 which I discovered the manual to that old wheeled loader and learned it cover to cover. When it became time to rock and sand for wages, I just think put rock here and it goes do that. It's hard to explain.

I guess if there is similar work with appropriate AC and heat I will be all over it again. I have not forgotten.

I knew a guy named Sven. Pronounce just like it is spelled. SVEN. FWIW, he was kind of a nut case....
Anyway, don't worry about living in a fantasy world. It likely beats the hell out of real life!
