For me.....Forget the 40" tall ant mount....Forget big power till later, even then it not gonna be more than 400-600 watts..
I just want my 60-70 watts to be happy..

Just start out with two of the same antennas. What ever length you trim off the radiator, you also trim off the counterpoise... until it's in tune.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Just for ####s and giggles, I measured from the center post of my windshield to the rear corner of the sleeper. Plenty of length to do a rabbit ear dipole. Each leg is approximately 8.61 feet.

I would tune it in a magnet Mount antenna on the roof of a car or you could try mounting a Francis antenna upside down and put the Wilson upright and tune it. Once it is tuned then you could flip it over and mount it upside down. then you mount the upright antenna and tune it. you can play with both adjustments to get the whole thing dialed in

that's the easy way

Someone needs a nap....How did a mag mount and a car get involved???? -

your out there dude.... and I thought I was.... go for it !!!!!!!!

You need a test jig. Otherwise how would you expect to tune something
-
An antenna needs to be tuned under known conditions otherwise how are we to know it is resonant?
One way is to use a dipole jig with a 108" copper wire hanging from the jig and when the upright element is tuned you will have the peace of mind of knowing it is correct. Tuning an antenna to an unknown counterpoise can give you unknown results.
