For it to get tight enough there must be some gear reduction

Worm gear reduction is used in boat winches, along with other applications, i think id be more worried about the longevity of the mechanism

One trailer I used had them on the rear. They work really well. You can get the straps tight enough to sing. Loosening them is really easy too.

I am thinking nice 18 volt drill and a socket. They are surprisingly quick to use. I only pulled the trailer twice so I didn't get a real good look at them.

I think I'm in love. They would be great on a conastoga. The extra 3 inches sticking out makes it difficult to tighten winches near the tires. But 80 bucks a pop? Think I just need to bend my winch bar.

I've got one. Its works good, i just always thought it was kind of a pain having to use it in those spots. It does work though, just not ideal for me. Some like them, some dont.

These winches are pricey, but man they look handy.

This guy only had the last 3-4 winches like this. Basically over the wheels and tool boxes. I actually like them better.

You know how you have to bounce on your bar at times because you need that one more click? Not an issue with this winch. A strap that a gorilla tightened can be undone by a girl in junior high.

I read on the site that it gets to about 1500 lbs of force and they test it to last 10 years. Pretty impressive.
