Hi guys. im signed up to go through a tech scool to get my class a cdls in January. the course will take 8 weeks. i have experience with class b but am gonna take the next step up. i am looking for companies that would take new drivers without experience. i would like to stay regional but i understand some of those require experience. also after reading on this site it seems like i need to try and steer clear of the megas. any suggestions?

Don't know where you're at, but I'm in Albany and I went to Albany Tech. Then I went with Schneider and they reimbursed my tuition. They have a dedicated account at Miller Brewing that would get you home every weekend if you're interested and they have an opening.......but you might have to go OTR for the first few months.
I started with Schneider over 4 years ago and haven't looked back. All megas aren't the same and all are not bad. Schneider has been very good to me and I have no intention of ever going anywhere else. It ain't all sunshine and lollypops, but nothing in trucking is.
Good luckDirtroadguy and 123456 Thank this. -
How far are you from Jacksonville?
Here's where the big money is.....$60K +
Superior-Carriers
McKenzie Tank Lines
CTL Transportation
Tidewater Transit
Schneider Bulk
Trimac Transportation (with 24 mos. experience can make over $100K in their Elite Fleet)
SVTN (www.svtn.com)
All the above hire new cdl grads fresh out of school.
You will need tanker/hazmat endorsement and TWIC ID Card. Google for nearest TWIC office. TWIC ID Card is for entry to sea ports, military bases, chemical plants, rail yards.Last edited: Nov 11, 2016

I believe Epes moved into RBI's building right across from Lowes DC......they might have some dedicated positions over there.

I've delivered to the K-Mart in Valdosta a few times; produce and frozen food.
Are you interested in tankers?Dirtroadguy Thanks this. -
Thats been a while ago kmart hasnt been here in years lol. i have no preference from tanker, van or reefer considering i have no experience yet.

If you want solid advice and have an interest in tankers then start with Chinatown's list...It doesn't get any better than that..Start now in getting all your endorsements put on your CDL-B..Haz-mat & Twic card take a few weeks so do it now.
Schneider Bulk will put you on tankers after 6 months...or if you had 3 months experience driving..Dirtroadguy and Chinatown Thank this. -
Yes, that's been awhile. I remember the K-Mart guy on the dock saying they may be closing. I was pulling reefers coast to coast back then before I switched to tankers.
If you want the big bucks, go right into tankers out of school.
Here's some more outfits if you're interested and they all hire new grads. If the website has "experience required" then the website isn't up to date. Since your school is 8 weeks, submit applications during the 5th week. Submit as many as you want; the more the better; then choose the best offer.
