Fm = Fleet managers = sucked big time. I think the reason it sucked so bad...it increased the number of directions internal communications were redirected when a driver was empty.
Shirley ran away with a truck driverAnd no longer works for W&S. I believe it was one of our drivers she married...don't hold me too that.
Low mileage seems to be an issue with some of the drivers...especially in the west right now.

It's good that Shirley is gone she was very hard to deal with, and it looks like the low miles are still there, some weeks I only got like 1200 -1500 miles, and no matter who I talked to it would not get better, and I was not the only driver sitting, the terminals would be full of drivers waiting for a load
-
WS, It was the best company I ever worked for. If they screw up and you miss a load because dispatch forgot you just call asuper. Tell him they are costing the CO money and it won't happen again. I reccommend you go to work there and soon as you cna buy a BIG truck and lease on. We already owned a Pete and GOodway Transport was going bankrupt so we bought a transcraft Eagle aluminum w/apitong runners rated at 70,000# in 10 ft, 65,000# in 4 ft so we could haul coils. Get a 10 ft spread axle and you wont have to run Canada 9lots of empty mi there) They do recurrent training and pay you $20 for passing a DOT safety inspection. I passed every one all the time I was there including CA. Take ervery load they give you and when the chips are down you'll get the good loads. Take it from someone who knows. Don't compain even to other drivers as they will take it back to the company. Get into flatbeds and then you wont have to haul the pups in the winter.

BTW/If you want to get into OO Flatbed at W-S talk to Matt Grandy and beg his help. He's the best guy I ever met and ask him about sleeping on top of mountains on holidays. Thats his hobby.

I had a competely differant experience with her. I guess she has a soft spot for rednecks LOL.
I won't say she gave me "great" loads. But she always got/kept me moving, that was the priority.
Of course, she wasn't thrilled when I woke her up one night, when the yard jokeys tried to have a laugh at my expense. Tough call as to which of us was pissed more. -
Well, just a little update from me. I was on a roll this month and getting some good miles, that is until I lost a transmission in VA, now Im waiting till tomorrow to get into the Freightliner shop so they can pull the tranny and fix it, its under warranty and the CO is paying for a room, but sure put a damper on miles. They bobtailed another driver from Sayreville to get my load and deliver it. Other than that everything has been going pretty good. All things considered.

Man that has to suk...be sure to get your breakdown pay. It ain't much, but it's better than nothing. Last time I received it...was same as layover.
Besides, you'll be there for a few days....at least. -
Hey Guys. I submitted my application last week and talked to Matt today about my status and all looks good to get me into the 10 day orientation on November 3rd. So how are all you driver's doing out there with the miles and such?
Also, is it just the western guys or if you are willing to go long haul across the 48 will you have better chances getting more loads?
Thanks in advance, and thanks to all the drivers who posted here, finally finished reading through all 70 freakin pages, lol.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 10, 2008

Many of the western guys are/were having problems. Not sure if they still are. We picked up a few new accounts. That should have eased their pain. Don't know though. I haven't spoken to any of them lately.
OTR guys are moving fairly well. But, you can get caught in that monster of a region (western) and get chewed on for a few weeks. It isn't what it was this time last year. For anyone.
Freight seems to be on a wave. One area will drop off, then pick back up. While another runs wide open for weeks on end, then slams to a complete halt.
My miles have dipped slightly within the past 30-45 days. But it's nothing that really concerns me. Be forewarned though... I can get by on a thousand miles a week if needed. And still have pocket change after paying the few bills I do have.
If I had to choose, and I was just starting out. I would go OTR. Simply because there will be less down time. -
I am schedualed for orientation on Nov 3rd, who all will be there?
