1997 freightliner fld cummins 11 my fan is air clutch and I have a manual switch..problem I'm having is the fan now comes on and off at random even just driving empty . .this is a dump truck ..where at what should I be looking for . .where would the sensor that control the on off be on the motor..I know I have 1 in the surge tank but I think that's for low coolant . .also I see the air control valve by the clutch could that be going bad ..thanks

Usually the fan on most engines is controlled by coolant temp or A/C high side pressure. Could be an issue with the sensors/switches and associated wiring. Could also be a short or wiring issue related to the manual switch.
-
Ok I was having problems with the ac kicking off and on right at the end of the summer ..is that the same switch ..
-
Maybe: Does it have a four wire switch on top of the dryer? That is an all in one called a trinary switch. What are your a/c pressures running. About 275-325 on high side should cause engine fan to come on. Does it do it with a/c and defroster turned off?

Also, I have run into where Flr ran there control for the fan on the M11s on the front RH side of the engine and the wiring will chaff and short and command the fan on/off when least expected and very inconsistantly, something to look at. Take care, good luck.

No it has 2 wire plug on top of it..

I check wiring from fan back didn't find anything . .

You guys think 1 of the switches on the dryer could be the problem

yes but check it out or have it checked out. Don't just swap parts.
