Old Dominion Freight Lines is about the best in PA for new cdl grads. Try to get in the line haul division though; not the P&D division.
TWT Refrigerated Service pays teams .60 cpm
Celadon pays teams .60 cpm
Even if you don't get tuition reimbursement, some companies are still worth it. Here's some solo positions if you don't want teams.
Nick Strimbu Inc. reefer division
Danny Herman Trucking
Calex Logistics
Britton Transport
Schuster
Tyson Foods
Magnum Ltd.
Freymiller
Veriha Trucking - home weekends, but keep in mind you're not making money if your wheels arent turning.
If I were you, try Old Dominion line haul as a first choice. If you don't want teams, then apply with the ones listed.
Submit lots of online applications then take the best offer. With Old Dominion, try to visit a terminal. Terminals are listed on the website.Last edited: Nov 17, 2016

@TommyTrucker88 I'm in a similar boat as you except I haven't done the training yet. I'm scheduled for 1/2/17 but one thing I've seen from checking out Pam transport is there's a lot of people quitting regularly so if you don't like doing the team portion your teammate might quit and then you'll be set to solo. I even seen someone say they were adamant about not doing team so they were solo's right out of the gate but not my experience so can't say if that's the truth.
But in my opinion you never know you like something until you try it so I'm personally going to try and embrace the team portion of the contract,. Worse comes to worse it's only 6 months...
*Edit*
And not trying to highjack your thread but the thing I'm most curious about is how hometime works when your team driving. As in who takes the truck home and if your dropped off what happens if your teammate quits before your picked back up?? -
Pam is a training company. They do not pay wages for anyone to stay longer then 1 year but somehow people do stay. That is because they pay the trainers there a higher rate.
I pulled Pam Trailers under my own authority for a while. They did not pay enough for me to remain with them but it did allow my authority to mature.
Sometimes, money is not the deciding factor. Most of the time it is. If you wish to make the most money. Go to a community college and get your license through them. That way you can negotiate your rate. I recommend not working for less then 45 cents per mile. I never have. Then as soon as you can go to work for a company like Hirschbach Motor Lines do so. They will show you how to operate at the most efficient. Join OOIDA and get your own authority. Buy a truck and a trailer. Get your own loads.
Finally, win the lottery and you will be set for life. -
21 cents for all miles. Most teams can run at least 5000 miles a week that $1050 a week plus benefits and there paying your school that's not bad get your year in then you can reexamine your self.and what you want experienced teams can make more you got to pay your dues first.
Quackers Thanks this. -
There is not a huge ladder to climb ( pay wise) in trucking but there is a ladder. Get some experience with whoever will take the risk to give it to you and then fine a good trucking job- if you like it.Quackers Thanks this.
