Some rails have started giving warnings for not removing zips when dropping. Easier to slide them off and put in pocket.
Or some just cut them off and leave them on the ground..

I can't visualize what you guys are talking about with the zip ties. Where am I supposed to put them? Is this for intermodal only?
-
Hub group loves their zip ties. Not having one is a 3 day suspension if your a good driver. If you've had any issues in the past it's termination

3031 Thanks this.

I never see jb hunt or schneider guys use zipties. Are they seriously dot mandatory
-
a chassis is already "secured" by the latch.. but we all know those are junk and can become unsecure with a bump. it's not good enough to those dot guys WHO know their ####.
but a state trooper/dot thinks otherwise. all the inspections i've been in (level 1/2), they looked at it EVERY SINGLE TIME. I know Indiana ticket's a driver for every pin not ziptie. Last time I got pulled over in wisconsin for a level 2 walkaround, he said his main focus pulling container drivers today was for looking at zipties. you dont know how happy that guy was when he saw my zipties on those pins. Dude went from grade A ####### to the coolest trooper i ever met. Weird.
Edit: also keep in mind, jbhunt and sni chassis's are far more advance then international chassis's. it's probably why they dont use zipties but i can assure you, jbhunt and sni preach safety and i'm willing to bet they preach zipties too. not everyone listens though. human nature.Last edited: Mar 19, 2017

I used a bit of wire now and then on a cranky container corner hook. Take it off and store it until next time you run into the cranky container hook.
Zipties? Forget it. Keep in mind back in the 80's all containers I ever touched generally had a good 4 corner hook. Again a bit of wire is all you need.
Now if companies are barking at you to carry a batch of zip ties then they are trying to save a dollar somewhere. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.
