Question, what's a good side/ part time gig for a new cdl holder? I just got my hard copy in the mail. However, I'm still active duty Navy and don't work Seabee's. I have most weekends off and fairly eaely days thoughs.
So outside of the school I just finished, I only see trucks on the road. I'd like to stay proficient as possible over the next few months before I leave California. Just wondering what kind of idea's people may have. I live in Southern California and most Craigslist ads seem a bit sketch....really sketch.
So anything that allows real world driving that's not OTR (for obvious reasons) would be nice.
Thanks in advance!

That's what I looking for , found one, but he wanted little more experience. the funny part is is that's my whole goal, lol.okiedokie Thanks this.

I would try and seek out the local farmers. I'd bet they can put you to work.ExOTR and CrappieJunkie Thank this.

You are discovering the limitations of the first year, need experience. Well... keep working it. The risk is you might end up with a bottom feeder who intends to wear you out in 90 days.
Nothing OTR is part time. When you leave home with that 18 wheeler and assigned to drive a load 1000 miles or 3000 you wont know when you will be back home again.
You are probably looking at a dump truck, beverage delivery etc. Local LTL is very demanding physically and also night day sleep cycles, flip often.BUMBACLADWAR and okiedokie Thank this. -
That's what I'd prefer too, I live in Ramona,so I'm someone knows someone.

Local beverage companies also try logging companies.

The thing is I'm still im the Navy. Just trying to add a bit of experience while I'm still in. So it's not as bad when I seperate a year from now.x1Heavy and slickWillie1980 Thank this.

That's what I do most of the year. I work on Ft Bragg in NC. Just got finished with beans a couple weeks ago. Other than any stray loads that need to be mopped up I'm done until next spring
